I have a 1998 F 355. On the top of the instrument cluster are two red lights. I can not find them in owners manual or anywhere for that matter. They come on intermittently and beep. Then they go off. No warning SDL or check engine lights are on. Does anyone know what these lights are for?

Post a picture. If they are in the instrument cluster they may be aftermarket for a radar detector.

After market. Could be anything, alarm/immobiliser perhaps?

    11,982 miles? DRIVE IT! :)

After market of some type. Be weird if it was an alarm system as the car already has one. Integrated radar detector? Should be other bits elsewhere in any case.

It seems like I have seen this picture before somewhere...how long have you had this car?

Yep, I just purchased from a collector in June with 10,700 on it. I try to drive it every weekend :). Now that I think about it, it does somewhat sound like a radar detector. Kinda bummed because the rest of the car is 100% stock.

I swear I saw that dash somewhere else....must have been on the for sale ad somewhere.

Anyway, could be worse. Find the guts of whatever it is and decide to keep or remove.

Ferrparts might have that panel used. DIY swap if you are so inclined.

    John,

You have a Calibre K40-1000 or K40-2000 Radar detector/Lase Diffuser. The red LEDs are for front and rear detection. Look for a controller knob in the driver's footwell and a local/highway LED indicator usually mounted in the ashtray assembly. Sensors are typically mounted in the front grill and inside the rear bumper.

Absolutely a radar. Might be a switch or dial under the driver side dash.

Yep, radar detector. Just removed mine a few weeks ago and posted the same question, except my lights were on the console cluster (two red and one white). It was a pretty complex system to remove.

Right. I have the Calibre K40-2000 Radar Detector/Laser Diffuser in my 550, installed by the original owner. It works perfectly.

The red LEDs for front and rear radar/laser detection are located in the spare switch on the console...

The front radar detector/laser diffuser sensor is in the front grill...
