TS is twin sound. Which is a different muffler setup. I ordered 3 exhausts at the same time - level 3, and two level 2. They came marked 3, 2 and no marking…

Interesting. If someone were to identify JohnnTT's muffler without the box, they would have no clue which version it is.

Now I just think Capristo is selling one 355 muffler with a label slapped on a box to confuse buyers :p. Capristo... we're on to you!

Wait.. are you saying you received the mufflers in similar fashion? No markings on the muffler, just a label on the boxes? And they all just so happen to sound the same?

The 3 sounded absolutely terrible and was taken off after the first drive. It was sold to another F355 owner who expressed the same concern that it wasn’t what he was expecting. The marked level 2 is on mine and the unmarked supposedly level2 is on my friends and we are both happy.

The level 3 which sounded terrible. Marked or unmarked? On a 2.7 or 5.2 car? What was terrible about it?

Marked as a 3. On two different 5.2 cars. No F1 high pitch and just loud and obnoxious. The Australian supplier Best Exhaust also stopped supplying Capristo stating it was due to quality issues. I ordered from them as well.

What year did you purchase the exhausts? Isn't it so odd that there are tons of Capristo videos which have the F1 high pitch and yet you had such a different experience?

VERY interesting. So the Cap 2's went on your car and a buddy's car. 2.7 car or 5.2 car? If the cap 2 went on a 5.2 car, it might be safe to assume there is a noticeable difference in 2 vs. 3 (as of recent). Or simply just an outlier of a badly made muffler. If there are quality issues, I would assume it is occurring on the inside of the muffler, not the outside as the appearance seems to be of the same quality it has always been.

On a side note. The cap 3 I purchased ages ago for my 2.7 car, sounded fantastic when valves open. Very clean, sharp, distinct F1 sound. I'm not out to knock the Cap 3, I was just aiming for something I thought might be better in a Cap 2, but ultimately, the difference was marginal if any. So if someone told me Cap 1,2, and 3 are the same muffler all along, I'd believe it. I just don't see much reasoning for Capristo to complicate the matter by offering 3 selections with marginal differences. All very confusing ... and still is.

It is very odd. But it was an issue. Because the two owners who fitted it complained that it sounded nothing like the YouTube clips. I’m just reporting what I experienced. I have heard Atleast 3 F355 with a 3 and they sounded fine.

My car is a 2.7 with level 2 and my buddies is a 5.2. Same setup everywhere headers, cats, bypass muffler: they sound very different. But that’s down to the engine management.

What would make more sound on a stock 355 exhaust setup in the bypass, removing the cats from the y-pipe or adding some straight-through plumbing to the muffler? (if the latter is even possible)

I like the stock exhaust sound. I don't want a car so loud it gives me a headache. My only complaint is you can barely tell when the bypass opens...

Ken if you end up getting a different exhaust and want to get rid of your X-OST mufflers let me know..i think XOST makes one of the best sounding exhausts for Ferraris..too bad that company is no longer in biz

I have driven a cat less y pipe equipped on a 2.7 car with stock muffler + Capristo bypass valve and the sound was barely changed from stock.

The thing that makes the biggest impact on volume is the back box, that’s why it’s called an exhaust silencer after all.

Apparently Capristo had modified a stock muffler to produce more high pitched note on bypass. That would be cool but you’d need to know what your doing to have a good sound when messing with the interval baffles and resonator chambers.

Called CapristoUSA today and he confirmed everywhere it shows up on paper...order, invoice, and internal docs show it as a Sound 1.

He also said they build them fast, just over exaggerate lead times because of unknowns with shipping.

There is no way to tell by looking, so will know when it's on.:cool:

What characteristics are you expecting to confirm your "Sound 1" muffler? 2.7 or 5.2 car?
