Max should have stayed away from the car. Idiot move.
Sorry, but a really bad take. Rules are rules, doesn't matter if it's the first race or the last. There is nothing to think about; Hamilton did the Q in a car that had an illegal advantage, doesn't matter if toothfairy or anyone else tampered with the rear wing, it was illegal and that's that.
That's a better angle of Max and Lewis's car. The notion that Max has super-human strength to alter the DRS infringement is ludicrous, ridiculous and farfetched.
Mercedes and the FIA are trying to put on the same level two types of offences that have absolutely not the same scope and consequences. If Max were punished for that, it would be a disgrace to this sport.
i don’t think they will go after that angle. It sounds like they are challenging that he broke parc ferme rules by inspecting their car. Stay around long enough and you’ll see everything in F1…my head hurts.
My guess is Mercedes will suddenly lose top speed in this race, probably linked to have to preserve engines
If they are both excluded (I don’t know upon what grounds it can happen to Max) it will be all ‘about the show’, integrity be damned. Unfortunately, I think that is the state of F1, but I’d be surprised if this happens. LH would be excluded because the drs would need to be adjusted but parc ferme doesn’t allow this after qualifying. Max would be excluded for? Being an ‘unauthorized mechanic inspecting a rival team’? Is there an auto-penalty for this action?
Challenge indeed. I mean in the same rules it's also illegal for team members to touch each other before being weighed (as potentially they could slip weights in his suit). Yet no one ever complained about it.
AMuS Even Red Bull admits that the Hamilton DRS case was probably a manufacturing fault or done by accident. This is supported by the fact that the rear wing on Bottas' complied with the rules. This explains why the BOT was 5.5 km/h slower than his teammate on the straight. not AMuS A technical infringement is a technical infringement, I can’t think of a time the FIA has ever been forgiving in that respect, even if it’s a manufacturing fault. Max touching a car is a sporting code infringement, they’re usually less severe in their punishment. Expect Max to get a formal reprimand and Lewis to get a pit lane start with a new rear wing assembly. The delay in the hearing is probably so Mercedes can present evidence it was a manufacturing defect or set up issue. I don’t believe they purposely broke the rules, I also dont believe the FIA will be lenient, technical regulations are usually pretty black and white.
How Red Bull knew that there was something smelly in that rear wing? Because I doubt both incidents are unrelated.
I genuinely don't know if merc did it intentionally or not. Let's just say, interesting timing for it. I agree, reprimand max, only purely to make clear that from now on its not tolerated (even though it always was before)
The teams are not complete clowns. They know their cars are scrutineered all weekend long. There is zero chance that Merc deliberately chose to fit an illegal wing on Hams car hoping to get away with it. That’s just Hollywood fantasy stuff, not what happens in the real world. Regardless, the regs are the regs and if there is a breach, Merc have to take the punishment. As for the max incident - I doubt very much that there will be any penalty beyond a slapped wrist and no cookies at bed time.
I was actually referring to the risk of penalties for Max, not Hamilton. But don’t let that get in the way of your obvious paranoia!
Given they were protesting he had no business near the car as rules provide. He is not allowed. Stupid move. Applies to any driver. Learn the rules.
The rules are not set in Mercedes hand but FIA. Max broke the rule and there is a punishment available. I would not think there is negotiation. We hear little from RedBull given its on video of the violation by Max. Same for Mercedes>>They know they are starting at the back if held to account. Not hard to judge any of this. https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/the-key-issues-behind-the-hamilton-verstappen-f1-investigations/6776601/ What could the penalties be? It is not impossible that both drivers could be excluded from qualifying for what has happened if the stewards take a hardline approach. Hamilton’s case is perhaps more likely. If the stewards deem that his car was in breach of the technical rules, then it is an automatic exclusion. In Verstappen’s case, the matter is much more subjective – as it will be down to the four stewards to make a call on how serious an offence they deem his actions to have been. For although his behaviour was innocuous, and is more likely to earn him a reprimand or fine, the fact that he did touch the exact part of the Mercedes that is under investigation, means the situation makes it far from straightforward. Mercedes could well argue that a simple touch from an outside party could be enough to have dislodged something and triggered the DRS rules breach – even if such a theory seems quite far fetched.
Somehow this was going to be Ferrari’s fault. Because of something from 2 years ago. F’in idiot Dodo. Mercedes F1 engine reliability concerns a legacy of 2019 Ferrari fight https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/mercedes-f1-engine-reliability-concerns-a-legacy-of-2019-ferrari-fight/6776771/
Yes for Mercedes if they are deemed to be in violation No for Max but that depends on the Stewards. He could be or face a simple reprimand. No matter what Max picked the wrong time to be curious and leaves the door wide open for Mercedes to play this out strongly. Really poor headwork by Max. He knew what to look for and that says he knew RedBull were taking action. Very stupid to say the least. Now maybe the FIA will enforce the rule others seem to break about parc ferme and drivers not touching other cars. Well done Max LOL
Autosport already amping up their defence of the Merc, and by association, HAM: “The wing will be the same design that the team has used all season, and there is nothing to suggest that it has deliberately gone about trying something new to exploit the DRS rules. One possibility is that something may have broken on the wing during qualifying, which has triggered the extra gap in the DRS.” Compare this to how they write about perceived infringements of other teams, including especially Ferrari.
That must be world's luckiest break...that it breaks so it goes past the hard stops but still works perfectly fine...and goes unnoticed. Lol. I again repeat ricciardo penalty in Singapore 2019. 1ms spike triggered by a kerb on his slowest q1 lap and still excluded.
