5.2 99GTS It's not too loud, has some scream when wot, and doesn't suck. So whatever number it really is.... Thats all I need.
Hehe. Honestly, I don't have any in person reference. So whatever it is, as long as it's got that quiet when cruising and more scream than stock, I'm good with 1,2,3,4, ts, ttrs, 1.11...
its awesome but its too loud i can't leave my house before 8-9am because i don't want to piss off the neighbors on cold start
Interesting. They're all kinda loud on start-up from my experience. Perhaps a Capristo would be ideal in your case . I'm a bit of a 355 parts horder and don't really like to sell things I know are difficult to re-buy unless I'm trying to clear up space or something. I'd start with a wanted ad in the classifieds. You never know. Might run into some luck. I'm starting to grow fond of the X-OST muffler . The previous owner had it on the car for 10+ years and paid $3k for it brand new. He certainly had the means to buy something else, but stuck with it all this time. How this exhaust sounds has always been a mystery to me for a long time. Funny story. My buddy with a 5.2 White GTB had an X-OST muffler on his car this whole time. He actually bought it brand new as well. He says he has X-OST carbon intakes as well. At the time, I was like, "what the hell is X-OST?" He's the guy that convinced me buy a 355 over an F430 because the 355 sounds crazy. He also had a 993 Turbo (at the same time), sold it and told me to stick with the 355. Back then, we weren't aware of sound differences between 2.7 and 5.2 cars. I took him for a spin in my straight-piped Capristo 95 GTB and he flabbergasted by the F1 scream. After the ride, I told him Capristo was worth every penny ($4k at the time) and I could help him get one if he want to switch. He said, "Nah, it's ok. I kinda like my X-OST ." This guy spends money on car parts just like I do, so $$ was certainly not the issue. Kinda always kept his comment in the back of my mind. Now I can understand where he's coming from . I'd love to compare the X-OST on a 2.7 and 5.2 someday just for kicks. X-OST was based in Maranello and I believe you're the one I first heard from they are former Tubi employees correct? Would love to see the source of that info.
With a 3.0 liter 75-degree V12 engine at 17,000 rpm, you get a sound like this... 1995 Ferrari 412 T2
So moral of the story is you won't sell me your X-OST lol...i read the former Tubi employee thing somewhere on the forums, don't remember, could be BS..its really sad that company isn't in biz or didn't at least sell their technology / manufacturing to another business to reproduce their great mufflers. I think i have one of the best sounding 550's i've ever heard because it has X-OST
Have you tried reaching this seller? https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/f355-exhaust-x-ost-maranello.513776/ I believe @Yassa knows how to get a hold of him.
Check this out. These guys are talking about Capristo 1,2, and 3 without realizing it’s all the exact same **** . Some positive mention of X-OST as well. Alternate reality? https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=235&t=1566630
They even got the 348 to sound good. What in the world??? https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/348-x-ost-muffler-for-sale.423890/ Starts at 1:40
@Tarek307 Desperate times call for desperate measures. Perhaps track the current owner of this car and make him an offer on his muffler? I don’t know how many X-OST 355 units are out there, but with the company being out of business since who knows when, I doubt there being many. https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/1997-f355-for-sale-or-trade-for-430.562179/ “For Sale or trade is my Swatters Blue F355. I've had this car for about 11 years and its history is pretty well documented on Ferrari chat. I have its complete history and service records from new. It's had 4 30K services in its life, the last one finished in May of 2015. The last 30K included all new Hill Engineering tensioner bearings, Belts, water pump, and a bunch of other things. This might be the forum you are referring to. https://www.************.com/threads/x-ost-systems.8397/ “Info from Alex is that one of the designers from Tubi left and started X-Ost, so there is no doubt in the knowledge. And they are right across the street from Tubi, so they can keep an eye on eachother.”
https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/355-x-ost.166892/ Apparently, X-OST also offered 3 stages . Receipts show mine to be the “sport” muffler, which I’m going to assume is standard or stage 1. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Anyone here run a stock muffler but cat delete pipes? I like the stock sound, I just wish it was a touch more aggressive.
I described the X-OST muffler to have a nice modest F1 pitch. No scream but howls from start to finish with about a 30% volume pitch increase when you get on it. I’m watching various X-OST clips on different cars and it appears the F1 howl is 80% there across the board. As if it’s their signature sound. Of course, it’s best on the 355 but the gist of the sound is there. Here’s a clip of it on a 348. Starts getting good at :40 mark. I can’t believe they were able to get a 348 to sound almost like a 355. Similar F1 howl on your 550?
@Tarek307 https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/x-ost-exhaust-and-emissions-testing.543352/ “Today I received my new X-OST exhaust. It looks pretty nice, very similar to the tubis which is no surprise, given that the company was founded by former tubi employees. I'm looking forward to checking out the sound as well as soon as spring arrives over here in switzerland.” Does kinda have a Tubi-ish look to it, but could just be an Italian thing. Even the manifolds look Tubi-ish. @jimmym Did you save pics of X-OST products? Their site is no longer working. Image Unavailable, Please Login
https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/what-is-the-best-sounding-exhuast-for-the-f355.340253/ Look at these guys trying to figure out what a Cap 1,2,3 sound like . Cap 2 & 3 sound like a Lexus when bypass closed. I guarantee it. There’s almost NO sound. Why would you have 3 variations of no sound? Capristo has been trollin’ the 355 community for 2 decades .
