I’ll give both drivers credit. This could have easily been like Silverstone or Monza, with hard racing and deft strategy. Max will never be an easy out and Hamilton is the only person on the grid (maybe Charles in a proper car) who can get a pass against Max. Even with Max driving with elbows out, LH got the job done.

That’s how a race between those two should go….no tears, all good!

He's behind and is the one that has to play catch-up. So, the alternative should have been....?
I guess how Max could lose the championship. That would be exciting....
Let's see...."Verstappen needs to earn as many points as he can to keep Lewis behind." and "Verstappen needs to earn as many points as he can to keep Lewis behind." and on and on......

I thought the coverage was pretty darn good today, actually.

By the time there's proof it's too late. Toto's "poker" face is as bad as Horner's.

So who is favored in Saudi Arabia and Qatar? Looks like an awful lot of straight lines to me.;)

Well, at least this race provided some virility to the Hamilton fans who were sorely in need of it. Don’t get too drunk on it now, lads. :D

It’s every race and it’s all about how such and such will affect Lewis and what Mercedes need to do to get Lewis in front and what are Lewis’ chances of winning the race, etc., etc. Every other driver/team is irrelevant to them.

Just look at how Croft was mocking Ferrari for committing to an obvious 2-stop strategy with their use of mediums for their second stint—a strategy they used to good effect to build a gap behind them—comparing them to the assumed miracle workers at Merc who he thought might be trying to do a 1-stop. This even after Pirelli was saying it would be a 2-stop race.

And BTW, the star of the race for me was Max—the same guy who should have had this WDC wrapped up by now without being knocked out by HAM and his butler in two races. He took the lead and held it almost to the end. Without the DRS effect and the power of his new engine, Hamilton would have stayed second.

So merc was 40kph faster on the straight than max. 40. Thats over 10%. Even without drs it was 5% faster in the straight.

That's not just a new engine turned up. Impossible to suddenly find that much speed. They have a new spec engine.

You would think that with 40 he would have overtaken him with more ease no? Is it constant 40 or just the max observed?
Are the next 2 races favorable to power units?

    40 with drs.

15 without. Thats 15 on a higb downforce track. So an enormous advantage.

Abu Dhabi and Saudi both big power tracks. The slow corners of Abu Dhabi have been removed (where res bull have an advantage) and replaced by a high speed corner...where merc has the advantage.

Qatar is a bit of an unknown again but high temps favour merc....

I'm just going to leave out any HAM or VER fan/haters comments, and say it was refreshing to have the top 4 drivers from the top 2 teams all involved with the race today! Still fed up with Horner and Wolf.
So, good on Perez for grabbing fastest lap, good call on Mercedes with some luck pitting Bottas under the Stroll induced VSC, great battle between Max and Lewis, glad to see no penalties applied on that one!
I know HAM plays to the local crowd, and he's a 7 time champ, but man, picking up the local national flag unless it's yours just is too corny for me. If you do it at your home race in your home country, or grab your own country's flag after a win anywhere, no problem.
Oh, and the HAM passes PER into turn 1 and then PER passes HAM into turn 4 (both with DRS) was awesome.

Saw this earlier. Yea..it's definatly a bit of a streach. I won't say any more then that. This could end up crossing the rules of the board.

Methinks you ought rethink your numbers. Fantasy.
I saw noone, not even Lewis, going 250 miles per hour (estimate). I didn't see him pass anyone by 25 miles (your 10%) per hour, not even the slowest. That would have meant he was doing 275!!! ;)

    Edit:400 kph=249 mph, 40kph,, obviously, is 24.9 mph.

That car was crazy fast this weekend. No other car on the grid had a chance against it. Not saying something is up..but damn..

Lewis's car also had a Monza rear wing(high downforce) and still Lewis's car had a big power advantage.

It's possible they turned up the engine for this race and this race only on Lewis's car.

It's just mind-boggling Lewis's pace. I haven't come across anything about this "new spec engine" Mercedes has for Lewis.....at least not yet.

Well Lewis did say he may have done some damage to the engine this race..how true that is (with his propensity to play mind games) we will never know.

    Max top speed was 305
    Lewis 338.

Not quite the 40. But 11% faster.

Without drs the advantage was 320-322. So again 5%.

That's with the barn door rear wing for merc and tiny wing for Red bull

So...a "reliability upgrade" but the engine is less reliable?

Perhaps they have been running the engine down on power for awhile now due to a weakness in the design. After using Bottas as a guinea pig, maybe they’ve rectified the issue and have now realized its full potential…
