Just got "lucky" as 1 customer traded it in for a 5712 and I already had the other 5905P.

I've been very fortunate to live in a relatively small town which makes it easier to create relationships with folks like Rolex ADs, Porsche dealer, good bourbon store, etc. All these started organically long ago when I first moved here and I started buying stuff I liked without knowing that other stuff was hard to get. As I got more into cars, watches, bourbon, I started getting offered more rare stuff. I honestly didn't know enough about all those worlds to manipulate it, it happened by itself at a time that most hard to get stuff was actually not that hard to get. You might have waited a few months or a year for a Hulk or a GT3 but as long as you weren't a flipper nothing was beyond reach with a little patience. Thankfully those relationships grew at that time because it wouldn't happen today in the current environment as scarcity is beyond ridiculous.

The down side of living in such a small town is that we don't have Ferrari dealers or Patek ADs. If I had I would have walked in seven years ago and asked for a Nautilus Travel Time (my dream watch) and waited my turn. The Patek ADs I walked into a few years ago like Wempe and Govberg are in major cities, and all told me that I basically won't live long enough to get a watch at msrp from them, so there's no point of getting in line, and that was before the current craziness. Since it's a watch I desire but do not need I won't pay the grey/aftermarket market price for one, and it's ok, I don't have to have everything. And I understand why Patek does it this way with supply and it doesn't even bother me. I just love that watch and would have owned it forever. Honestly I'd be happy to tell an AD that they can keep the boxes and papers for twenty years so as to trust me that I won't sell it.

Oh well. If the fiftieth worst thing that happens to me is not getting a watch I like, it is the most blessed life. :)

Great watch and great idea opening up that engine cover to let all that heat out. I do the same for my 348 also. :)
