Sad... one of the F1 giants. Hope the team continues in his honor and makes it to the top podium again someday.

R.I.P. Sir Frank Williams and comfort to his family in their time of grief.

I hope the Williams name is never replaced as a team name, it should remain.

Met him once in 1980 in Brands Hatch. When he was at the top of his game and Alan Jones fighting for the title. He was a bundle of energy and brilliance. Sad.

    RIP Frank

He had a great life and this is a huge loss to motorsports. He and his team is what got me into F1 here in the US decades ago as a kid. RIP.

They told me we’re supposed to go slow.

Probably the last of the great and successful privateers in F1....and his driver roster is likely never to be surpassed. He was totally dedicated to his sport and his team and overcame many obstacles and setbacks which would have broken most men.

Not so sure about that. There was Ross Brawn and his WDC winning team. Now we have Red Bull, which in a way is Marko's hobby. Similar things could be said about Stroll and his AM team.

None of those teams has had the success and influence across decades...and even the eras... that Williams had, and I don’t think Stroll, Marko or even Brawn is anywhere near the stature of Frank Williams.

WAY back ('00s), while we were still doing a lot of work with Nortel, we helped put together (in a very small way) the sponsorship deal with Williams. I got to know a few of the Williams personnel, but I never met Sir Frank. Unfortunately. However, by all accounts, a gentleman. RIP. Condolences to the family.

What’s also sad is how his daughter ruined the team

I was always impressed with how he continued after his auto accident caused his paralysis. That showed tremendous drive and desire and will power. He refused to let it stop him from doing what he loved. As with Chapman and Enzo, Frank Williams was major influence in F1. My thoughts go to all his family. I often wondered if his daughter really wanted the job she inherited, or did she accept it out of love and loyalty to her father. Either way, the last of an era has now past.

I think you meant to type, "Dieter Mateschitz's hobby."

The real beginning of this was the Williams/BMW failure.

    Yes, thanks.

Come to think of there have been a number of "garagistes" who came after Williams and who were also very successful. Mateschitz being the most recent successful one.
