Who in Sydney (or dare I say it Canberra) would be the go to person to get a Testarossa running properly? Seems to be an issue with the fuel delivery system which I understand is mostly mechanical but part computer…

Only comment I’m going to make is regardless of how excellent a particular mechanic may be, is the average owner really happy to have their car in there getting fixed for years?

Especially if it’s their only special car.

They're only busy because they manage their time and workload so poorly. Dealer servicing at least means there is someone involved in the process who plans the jobs and anticipates parts required. When mechanics leave and setup on their own, they are either unaware of or can't afford this resource.

Add in the hopeless spare parts support from Ferrari and you have a recipe for cars sitting under dust covers for months on end, or pushed outside into the rain or hot sun every day.

 

The best advice. The TR injection / electrical problems are well known and have been solved many times over.

 

Agreed. One of the best Ferrari mechanics in Australia is at Ferrari Adelaide (the guy whom fixed in a matter of hours the issue that was confounding everyone else for the best part of a year). I've had good experiences at independents as well, so don't want to sound like I'm bagging them.
But the opinion from some people that dealers should be avoided at all costs is BS, IMO.

In my experience the dealer's prices are reasonable, the timeframes are only ever hindered by the hopelessness of Ferrari themselves, and the work done is top shelf. They are also perfectly happy to install non-Ferrari parts if I supply them (I've got several Hill Engineering parts on my car, for example).

Add in that I get invited to events and car launches / test drives etc., plus they organised the private factory tour for me back in 2014, so taking my car anywhere else doesn't make a lot of sense.

 

I mostly agree with you, however I didn't enjoy paying over $2K for an oil and filter change when Sal was happy to do it for under $500.

I have to trim Greg's hedges ten times to earn $500, let alone $2K!!

Yep....something I've seen happen over and over and over, just like you have.

The last time it happened to me I was very unhappy, to say the least. I always say "I didn't spend this money so YOU could look at my car"

Over time, you find people who work efficiently and honestly, but my God...it's bloody hard work.
