Hi all. It has been a long time since I last posted...busy with work and other distractions. After 11 years I have decided to sell my 328 GTB and would be keen to get your views on the best consignment seller or auction house. My enquiries so far have found that the major well established auction houses have a buyers and sellers commission totaling over 15% plus an entrance or preparation fee. So for a $300,000 car the Auction houses' take is $45,000+ which seems to me to be out of scale with the work involved. Maybe understandable for a $100,000 car but perhaps should be adjusted in consideration of the value.
I know Brooklands will take cars on consignment.....are there others you would consider?

Shannons are 5% and are more open with their reporting.
Your car is an import which is the same as this which didn't reach reserve last night even after a very clean bill of health:
    PI @ $160501

I would have thought $160k was right on the money for that

Yes and the OP's car has to be an import from somewhere as well.

Thanks guys. I understand that someone might factor in that it is a UK car but of course there was no option for a 328 GTB as there is no option for a dry sump 308 so I think the UK factor is only ( or should be only) an issue for a GTS. At the end of the day a euro spec car has significantly more power and a car needs to be assessed on its condition and history rather than which country it was delivered new into. Obviuosly there is no UK import factor to be considered for a GTB.........provided you like red/crema !
What did the GTS pass in at? BTW the fees for a Shannons auction are 5% for the buyer and 11.5% for the seller plus entrance fee so well over 16.5% total ie > $50,000. This goes some way to explaining why cars are passed in at what might seem otherwise realistic bids ... hey but that's how the market works.

OOPs........I should have noted you did put the bid price in your post at $160K. So the owner would have to have been satisfied with around $141K ... I can understand why they would not sell at that.

    Thanks Guys,
I think Chrome Temple's rates are realistic and in scale to the work/service involved but I'm not sure about the reach or consumer confidence in them at this stage.
After some good advice and careful thought I am leaning toward having this car and perhaps one of my other 328s (GTS) presented for sale by a Ferrari specialist workshop/showroom. I like the idea of being in a little more control of the process and I think the buyers in the target age group would be more comfortable with a slower more transparent process via a well know and more importantly well regarded Ferrari specialist
Both Sandro and even Karl Verdi in the UK are great suggestions for a lightning fast sale........but unfortunately I actually need at least some money!

Sue him in VCAT, get a judgement, get it enforced in the Magistrate's Court. You can do it while he's in jail.
