    Good day All,

    Adding doc...

Chassis 19489 looks like a complete and preserved original car except for the recent paint. With that said the car will need some refreshing and repairs (rear is sitting low which could mean load levellers needing attention) so additional $ will be needed to elevate the car to a nice driver.

    Cheers,

    Sam

Seems like a lot of money for a car that isn’t in that great of shape.

    Good day AK Jim,

Yes, but it does have nice shiny paint :) ... Overall I see a fair amount of work and $ to bring this car up to a reasonable level. However, it does appear to be original (mostly) and so a suitable base for these efforts.

    Cheers,

    Sam

You make a good point. And I am in no way saying that this car sold for too much, it’s just more than they usually sell for. Maybe I’m biased but I think in general this series of cars are way underpriced and largely unappreciated. Hopefully this is an indication that the series is starting to move up in value.

I went to see that car before the respray at Guikas a few years ago when they just got it (they wanted 85k) it was extremely original and had full ownership record. The body was in a very sorry state (I hope they did more than just a respray). But i have to say mechanically it was very well maintained as it was used a lot by all the previous owners and maintained accordingly.
I finally decided not to buy it as my mechanic at the time estimated it needed about 15k of work at the minimum.
I think i still have the photos somewhere. I’ll have a look.

    Good day Ak Jim,

Understood. I, also, was a bit surprised at the hammer price in a good way, as it means that there is a $ incentive to maintain the cars better than in the past. I agree that the 365/400/412 series has been under appreciated for many years. However, this can be said for a number of other models too... from the 308GT4, to the BB's, etc. It seems that it takes a few heavy weights to really acknowledge a model and then the followers jump on board... and finally everyone realizes how wonderful these cars are and then moan about when they could have bought them for low $ way back when.

    Cheers,

    Sam

    Good day Tom,

Thanks for the feedback! It is great to hear that the pictures are reflective of the car's state and that the car was well appreciated and driven by its previous owner(s)! Needless to say, wear and tear does take its toll and so I would agree with your mechanic that a good chunk of $ would need to be spent to bring the car up to a certain level. However, like most things, one tends to not know where to stop... does one just tend to the immediate needs, or does one go further... and then how much further? I say this, as this has been my process with my car.

    Cheers,

    Sam

I am glad to see this car made the price it did as I am getting my '82 400i refurbished at the minute and gave the go-ahead to more work than I originally estimated I would have to spend so it's good to see that maybe values are moving upwards for genuine cars. I honestly would have thought that this car would have been expensive at €50,000! The colour is not one you'd go for and that stance probably means that lots of money needs to be spent!
It's a good day and thanks for sharing. Here's a few photos of my car from the Ferrari specialists in Italy where it is currently being worked on.

    Good day Paul,

This looks very close to the state my car is in...Although in my case my engine and transmission are still in the car... but... all of my suspension bits are done along with the interior and exterior. I just need some time to repaint the frame and then reattach all of the parts. I hope I remember where they all go :)

Thanks for sharing the pics and I hope your car gets completed asap!

    Cheers,

    Sam

    Thanks Sam!

Hopefully we’ll both have the best of the best when the works are finished

Best of luck putting it all back together, I trust your dad bought you a Meccano set when you were a boy in which case it’ll be a doddle to you
    All the best,
    Paul

    Good day Paul,

    You are most welcome!

My goal was to bring the car up to a very good to excellent driver, so I could enjoy the car without concern about the bumps and bruises that will inevitably happen with use. However the during this process I found that I had to constantly choose between a basic repair, repair and refreshment, or the restoration of the various items which has added to the $ and time to whole project. Making matters even worse is that I tend to be somewhat "particular" to details and so I am more inclined to restore an item than simply repair or refresh.

As for reassembly...indeed, I did have Meccanno sets when I was young, however, nothing was really safe in my household from being "dismembered" :) Usually if I took something apart I could build a second item with the parts that were left over :) Thankfully these days we have digital pictures and pretty much unlimited storage of images and so if one is careful to document the disassembly process, then reassembly can be relatively straightforward... or so I am hoping!

Take care and please post up more pics as your car's process continues!

    Cheers,

    Sam

Now, now, don't be a ball breaker :)

Like most old and rarely used cars they will all have needs and lately, the ones being offered for sale all seem to need some love.

    Cheers,
