I haven't seen any posts of scantily-clad beautiful and sexy women draped over a Tesla yet. Plenty of eye candy with Ferraris, perhaps you could post a few or a URL? As well, I too haven't seen the e-cars touting their numbers at the Nurburgring, the ultimate test of performance.
Well, I wouldn't say Ferrari would be reduced to expensive handbag status, but I do believe that "status" itself is part of the equation. I believe many of Ferrari's sales over the decades had the status component, aside from speed. But the status came from speed. It's all connected. Ferrari will make an EV car in just a few years. When that happens, will people buy that over the Testa Plaid? I think so. It will probably be just as fast or faster, and handle better, and have the "status" on top. Look at the present EV cars. Why are people buying the Porsche Tacan over other super fast EV cars? Because when all the "speeds" are equal, they want a Porsche. The same will happen with Ferrari.
Change is the only constant. Future belongs to non-ICE based transportation. As more and more legacy manufacturers, including Ferrari, jump into the EV space, with all their experience building cars over many decades, each will try to differentiate themselves from the other with their own unique flavor, just like they have been doing with ICE cars. To say a Ferrari EV is going to be no different than a Tesla is like saying Ferrari, Porsche, BMW, GM and Ford gas cars are all the same because all are ICE engine based. Driving an EV is not an emotive experience .... for now. I want to be the last guy on the planet to switch to an EV but what worries me more is the switch to autonomous vehicles that is likely to happen as fast as new EV's are coming to the market. Why no one here seems to be more worried about that?
I drove our Model S hard and never had issues with brakes. Actually as I already said the braking ability because of the strong engine pull back is pretty impressive on that heavy of a car.
The Plaid? I have the Plaid and the brakes are gone within a few minutes. The car should've had the ceramics from factory....
it is very much like a moderate Democrat in the P&R forum. echo chamber, people like you don't want to even consider any view other than your own. reminder this is a discussion forum!
Tesla is basically a decade old. Ferrari 8 decades. They have other priorities right now, but it at least shows potential of their designs. I think it is fool hardy to put down Tesla over their current designs, that will come back to bite you someday.
Yes they do, actually, a significant amount of them, but not mine, and I can't say why they have implemented it due to P&R. It's a mountain of lies I tell ya!!
……and Enzo will be laughing in his grave when Californians on a hot Sunday evening in 2035 returning from the beaches and their dinners cranking up their ACs and plugging in their EVs to prepare for the Monday morning commute!
Very good overview! Like you we owned a 2016 Model S, but I've also owned 328, 355 Spider, 355 Challenge, Cali 30, and Cali T. Also a GT3 and Maserati. Also have more racing laps than 99.99% on FerrariChat. I don't think either of us are saying Tesla is better than Ferrari, but there are certainly many on here with Rossa fogged glasses and living in the dark. We appreciate your experienced input.
The Plaid is just significantly faster, instead of scrubbing from 120, I find myself scrubbing from 140mph kinetic energy | 3.263 MJ (megajoules) = 906.5 W h (watt hours) = 0.9065 kW h (kilowatt hours) Versus kinetic energy | 4.442 MJ (megajoules) = 1.234 kW h (kilowatt hours) = 1234 W h (watt hours) Or roughly 35% more energy needing to be removed Plaid vs P85, is almost 2x the HP, 470hp versus 1035hp and 687 lb ft torque versus 1050 lb ft Every car guy I've taken for a spin giggles like a kid including myself
Speed has not been the sell factor for Ferrari for a generation already. A sub $50k sedan would beat my ‘97 Porsche and my ‘97 Ferrari in a straight line or around a track, but it doesn’t have the special feel, perfect look or provoke the same emotion (smell, sound, history) - even as an owner my cars still really excite me.. all the time… that all said, the new Ferrari’s don’t excite me in nearly the same way, but still plenty more than a Tesla (which are also cool of course) Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Never that. Love Cali. Born and raised and you couldn't pay me to leave. I've lived on 3 continents and driven most of the US. The state gov ain't perfect, but there's so much more to this place than politics. EVs will never have the visceral sensation of a combustion engine. ICE is literally ALIVE. It drinks, it breathes, it growls. Electrical engines do none of things things. I think some of the more Blue States are likely to implement "self driving lanes" just like the commuter lanes. That's how it will start. Soon, those lanes will be the primary lanes, and piloted cars will be pushed to the edge. But we're probably 2 decades from self driving becoming the majority on the road. Probably half that time before EVs are the majority.
I have lived on 5 Continents, driven all 50 States 2-ice, All Europe dozen of times. You couldn’t pay me to live in California even though I own houses there! ps there is a reason that Californians are migrating en mass here in Texas!
I think, like the Mustang, there will be a market for electric conversions. You get the old Ferrari look with the insane speed of an electric. You can't replace the sound, and that matters, but I also think that younger generations (as they reach economic harmony) may care less about that.
BTW I got a few members saying I had the best post in the thread, can you guys send me a plaque or a trophy? Thanks
true, but that's mostly irrelevant at this point. they are a better commute car than most ICE cars out there, but they are terrible for traveling. it is easy to get a charger in your home, we only had to charge ours once a week for a 40 mile round trip commute. we took it a few times on 450 mile trip, it sucked! 65 mph pretty efficient, 75 mph 75% as efficient, 85 mph then 50% efficient. we did it once in the cold and battery couldn't hold charge as long. we did it in heat once and it used up too much battery cooling. it was not a traveling car! I want a car that can go 400 miles without stop 90 mph.
