Because the core of Ferrari's ethos is about racing. Racing is about speed. Now some folks on this very thread argue Ferrari should not worry about being fast anymore.

I don't understand it, but yet here it is.

Well, if that bothers you, that means you should never buy an older Ferrari either.

Do you know how much Fiat/Stellantis/Chrysler got in "TAXPAYER" money (even before the Ferrari IPO?)

    I won't even go into Ford/GM.

    **

What's odd to me again, is what does politics have to do with the OPs original question?

If a car does 1/4 in less than 10 seconds. it just does. Doesn't matter if it has a Donkey or Elephant decal on it.

either track records are being broken, or not.

Doesn't matter if the driver is a liberal or conservative.

That's right, and you have every right, but I didn't see the OP ask if electric cars are ugly.

I mean who am I to judge if you think the Rimac/Evija/Pininfarina/Gemera are too ugly to buy? Either they have nearly 2,000 hp or not.

I get it, some people don't care about speed, horsepower, or being fast. That's fine, to each their own. I mean, some people have always preferred to buy something like a Maybach over say a LaFerrari or SF90.

Who am I to judge if you prefer the next generation Ferrari to use milquetoast technology going forward?

Some prefer Ferrari to focus on jackets and toys too, it's fine - maybe they even should leave F1 since it's gone KERS.

The response to my "FIFY" had nothing to do with you and deserved no other response to drag this into P&R. I made that clear a while ago.

Stop with the politics in this thread and stay on topic.

If you want to debate the Electric Car, fine, but I am drawing the line with this debate going political. I will post my political feelings in P&R.

I read an article on 308 brakes on a track day rental car in UK, they had no complaints, and I drive my car harder and more aggressive on the street than 99 % of track day goers, my car slows down from a 120 to 65 so incredible, that I cant believe they are stock, so I would have to disagree with you Sir , and the feedback is second to none.

    Thank you again.

Anyone who thinks a Tesla is all about 0 to 60 mph should look at the power graph. The plaid does not even produce it’s full power til 80mph after which it maintains it flat to top speed. It’s a great car but in no way a substitute for an fcar. If you wanted to daily drive a 1000 hp it’s a cheapest option out there and that’s not even taking comfort into account. I have personally seen it pull a 765 on a roll.

Majority of the braking is done via the regen mechanism in the Tesla. Also, the battery is optimum for both performance and charge when it’s heated. 80 percent charge in a plaid takes around 10 minutes at L3 super chargers. This is from personal experience.

You haven't experianced enough cars have you. If you think a 308 has good brakes you must also think it's fast too.

that's bull ****, you can't duplicate a 40 minute track session on the street doing 10 threshold brakings every 1 minute 30 second lap. if you had you would know what I'm talking about.

its all going to be irrelevant regarding who's got the fastest conveyance....governments will be limiting speed on you new shinny EV and ICE car in the near future if they can get away with it. Its already being discussed in Europe and the UK

so whether Porsche and the like, can sort out synthetic fuel that doesn't pollute, the fight will be to not have the cars speed electronically limited by legislation.

I do have a question for you with regards to the battery. I think the model s has the same battery type as the lower models but a bigger battery. The questions are:

    1) How long have you had the car? Or how old is the battery?
    2) How many approx charges have you performed on it?
    3) How far have you drained it?
    4) How are most of your charges? For example, 60% drain to 90% charge for most of your charges or a different range?
    5) What is the current battery capacity now? 100%, 99%, etc.
    6) How many miles on it? Are they mostly short commuter (50 miles or less a day) miles or mostly long commuter (50 miles or more a day) miles?

I am truly interested in a real world example from someone that has one and not from people with opinions. My main concern has always been the 8 year battery warranty and what the truth really is about degradation and what to expect. I am an open minded person when it comes to engineering and actual data, feelings aside.

I literally just asked my wife if she wanted me to get her a Tesla Model S and she blurted out NO. I asked her why she would say that and she said she worried about the battery replacement. I just said ok because I could not give her an expectation of life expectancy and how it relates to her commuting.

If you are not comfortable answering for some reason just let me know that. Thanks.

Just a question, do you think most of the people who own Ferraris who drive them on the track during a track day event do so at 10 threshold braking every 1 minute and 30 seconds? I can see a stripped out Porsche being pushed like that, but a $350k Ferrari from an owner? I would never push my Ferrari into that kind of position, but I would in that 996. Just asking since I did not go to Sebring a few weeks ago. Were people running their Ferrari's to that edge? Serious question.

I ask this because at that rate, a $25k brake job comes up real fast.

    This is a legitimate point.

There's a lot of misrepresenting my OP in this thread. But the nanny state point you make here is salient. Someone is going to wrap a Plaid around a telephone pole with their kids in the back seat. And then the conversation will shift to "Is the Plaid TOO fast?" and a bunch of media fear mongering will ensue.

The hilarious part? The same people who are poo pooing electric cars now will be defending them against regulation then. Sadly, they'll probably lose that battle too and the cars will be choked at 120mph and 0-60 at 4 seconds or so.

Not that it will matter. There's not mechanical parts in an electric car and the software based governor will just be hacked.

no, most Ferrari drivers, even on the track aren't taking it to 100%.

the late model Ferraris can handle it, I'm talking about the 308/328. there aren't big track expenses on a 308/328, but they do have pad fade and the part that will kill you is boiling fade, which you will floor the brake pedal. the 348/355+ Ferraris can handle that track driving, but then they will have many more track expenses. the 355 could often be a $8k weekend just going through hub bearings if a bumpy track.

I wonder how many laps a tesla plaid can do at the 24 hrs of lemans?, oh by the way most real ferrari owners (drivers) fancy themselves Ken Miles not Mickey Thompson. EV has a very, very, very long way to go to make my 458 obsolete

It's coming faster then you think. They are ready developing electric airplanes. Stop trying to make excuses and finding ways to discount what is coming. Enjoy gas powered cars while you can..I know I will.

I and others in my profession perhaps have the most to lose from all of this..as I make my living repairing ICE powered automobiles. You would think I would be shouting from the tree tops trying to save ICE..and my job.

That is not the case. Most techs are very much on board with the change and have grown tired of the waste, mess and working in environments which are generally unhealthy.
