property taxes

anybody else notice their property taxes have gone up?
why? do they periodically reassess?

Yes. They go up every year (here in California).

In most cities they go up every year; at least that I'm aware of. Never heard of someone's property tax not increasing each year.

 

Did you get a new assessor?

The only other explanation I can imagine is that maybe you over paid a bit and the market took the last 9 years to catch up. That's a bonus at least on the property tax front. We're in Morgan Hill also bought in 2011, and it's been nothing but up every year.

 

Prop 13 allows a 2% per year increase from the base year assessment. You also have special assessments (bond issues, sewer districts, vector control districts, etc) that get added to the property tax bill. A new addition to that list could bump things up too.

Your property tax bill should have a breakdown and you can compare to prior years.

 

Correct in all senses....mine keep going up due to assessments. Crazy school district bond increases, mosquito abatement, community college district assessments etc.

 

My 100AC and log cabin is in Cottonwood Tehama county did not go up this year. I was shocked. I called and talked to two ladies at the Accessor Office to confirm. Tehama county is below Shasta County and not too far from Oregon border. Hope the same for next year!

Where are they going to get all the money to pay for......(fill your own wasteful govt program).

 

No more than 2% a year as long as you don't buy a house. Of course add in all the extra propositions, bonds, measures etc -
