    Ouch!

He risked alot. He nearly touched the wall 2 or 3 times on that lap.

He was pushing a touch. Over drove it just a touch. On the limit fully.

The fastest is not on pole due to a mistake.

Max choked plain and simply. The pressure caused him to push too hard and made a mistake, as is his custom. And he will do it again in the race tomorrow. The only question is who he will take out with his errors!

Choked? or didnt restrain? He has nothing to lose. Your sparkly FIA Princess does and his cheat team does. The unmustachable is like 23 freakin years old putting a world of hurt on the entitled FIA poster child all season! What you saw today was raw raw raw lion heart. admit it.

Max may not be my favorite but man was he on it that lap. Absolutely brilliant on the limit stuff. It’s so easy to cast blame and say that he choked or over drove but the reality is that we were all treated to a wold class lap with a reminder that great risk accompanies great effort. I’d much rather see that with an occasional heartbreak than have a driver play it safe. Kudos to Max today. He drove like a champion

If he didn’t have that lock up on the front right I think that he would’ve made it.

  12. But he did. The lockup didn't just present itself out of thin air. He made it happen. Ooooopppsss.

  13. No?

How about this minor thing called a race.

And even less significant, a championship?

I do not care whether VER or HAM wins tomorrow but for two third of a lap VER was pure genius. Then he crashed down to earth. One day, soon, he will not make that kind of rookie error, and he will be world champion.

  16. You lost me there.....
What has Lewis' possible 8th got to do with a race and and his possible first championship being your "nothing to lose" for Max?
I think he, and Red Bull, of course, might disagree everrrrr so slightly.
I don't think their main concern is preventing Hamilton's/Merc's (wins and championships).....it's their getting their own that inspires them. ;)
In closing, yes, Max has plenty to lose.

  17. Verstappen's got seven years in F1. How long, exactly, will it take him to mature out of a "rookie mistaking" flash and into a real race driver?
'A shame because he has the skill.....a gift if you will......to be one already.

The gap between Perez and Max shows us the real RB16B pace.
The Mercedes is always the best car but with a lot less margin compared to the last seven years.
What Max was trying to do yesterday in quali was absolutely magnificent.
As Lewis did in Singapore quali few years ago..

Looking in my crystal ball: on the slim chance that at the start the leaders get through turns 1 and 2 without carnage, eventually it will end up with the inevitable Lewis leading Max or vice versa. Then, given the speed and narrow track, there will be some shunt requiring the safety car. At the re-start whomever is 2nd will try to slip stream past the leader. At the next corner neither will back down and there will be carbon fiber confetti raining down. Maybe Danny Ric can grab a win!

It isn’t a rookie mistake. It is driving on the edge.
You called Senna crashing in Monaco a rookie mistake?
Max had to give it all to stay close or even in front of the Mercedes.
The faster Mercedes makes it possible for Lewis to take it more easy and go safe. If max did the same as Lewis we would have seen the exact outcome with 1,2 Mercedes.

  21. Sighhhhh. Your mistaken regarding my intent. You're forgiven. :)

No. I don't call either a "rookie mistake (error)", as did Wily B in post #2415. That's why I used quote marks in my post that you quoted.

So it was more important to risk everything by crashing (just to "stay close? What importance is it if he's closer or further whilst 3rd in qualifying)? If the box needed changing, the the cost would be more grid places. If not, and it breaks during the race; no win, and, again, more importantly no.....zip, nadda.....points toward the championships. (absostone's, #2404, "He has nothing to lose."?)
When chasing a win or championship, maturity is essential.....even more so when there's only two races left in the season. Race drivers are paid to provide results, not to show off silliness.

I have the greatest respect for MV's talent.....just not a whole lot for his judgement. :)

I think you underestimate the fact that he has to take a lot of risks to be competitive against this incredible Mercedes team.
As Honda did with its engine this year.
Everything is played on a thread and I am admiring his state of mind at the sight of these parameters..
