Hi Everyone, I have a clear bra on my black 599 all the way up the hood and on the rocker panels. When I look in the sunlight I have streaks and smudges I can't seem to wipe off. What should I use? Water and alcohol? I thought I'd ask before trying anything. Thanks in advance!
I clean the clear bras on my cars as I do the paint but never use heavy abrasive cleaning materials. Expel.com has an FAQ section that discusses various topics on PPF care. You might want to review the topics. You might also be surprised to learn how sturdy these new PPF’s are.
I would take it off…paint will look like the day that 599 rolled out of Maranello . It may just need removed, I had some PPF on my 2011 599 and over the years the plastic simply faded/discolored. I pulled it off and the paint looks amazing. I will note, I am not a fan of PPF, to me either the film gets blemishes or the paint, either way you can see it. Expel makes a sealer type of wax that works pretty good on PPF. If you have material made in the past few years it most likely is self healing with the application of some minor heat. You may only need to park it in the sun for a few hours to heal. Just a thought, good luck in getting it corrected. I know it would bug me as well.
FWIW I just had some rogue kittens decide they wanted to slide down the windshield and hood my my (black no less) 458 - and in certain light conditions could see the slide marks. I have PPF on the entire hood/window posts/mirrors etc. etc. so kind of in the same boat you are in. I tried using my normal Quick Detailer and they did not come off so I used some McGuire's ScratchX and it worked flawlessly. ScratchX also has wax in it and specifically says it is meant to protect the finish which is why I chose it - I am sure the comparable Mothers product would work just as well. Just FYI - Cheers OH and BTW - Covercraft outdoor car cover is on order Don't want to use the factory "red lingerie" outside
Wow - Interesting and perhaps useful/beneficial given the amount of PPF and color of my car - is this it? https://www.amazon.com/GYEON-Quartz-PPF-Renew-120ml/dp/B07RP1QGCZ/ref=asc_df_B07RP1QGCZ/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=343955717976&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=3537470862542613998&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9028714&hvtargid=pla-819493483418&psc=1&tag=&ref=&adgrpid=70731225753&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvadid=343955717976&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=3537470862542613998&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9028714&hvtargid=pla-819493483418
+ this ^^^ My GF has a 2009 Lotus Elise that was PPFd when new - car is white so starting to show age and yellowing etc. - Had it re-done and the car looks like/better than the day it rolled off the showroom - and the cost for removal and re-application was quite reasonable - Highly recommend and agree FWIW - Cheers
If you go that route I would get/use Sprayway and not Windex - I believe Windex has ammonia in it and KNOW Sprayway does not - I use Sprayway on the flat black hood of my Hellcat and at times it gets on the paint which has PPF on it and no issues. Cheers
Yes thats it my friend. I was at a show in October and talked to a guy with a 488 who had full PPF. The finish on the car was amazing, such clarity. I was shocked when he said it had been detailed and polished using the Gyeon Quartz PPF Renew.
