What ??? Regarding the title of this thread you guys think that the 812 replacement will be a Range Rover?
If I was Ferrari would be thinking of how to move more Romas, 296s, and Portos so why not make it the purchase criteria a little harder for the SUV. They didn't do enough of that with the GTS (possibly regretting that) and sometimes you need carrots to dangle even for a FUV or the upcoming 812 replacement
Agreed. Why prevent other enthusiasts from getting the same car as you? Is it about enjoying your car or having something someone else can’t get? I have no wish for a Roma or Portofino but if I wanted to get any of the other standard production vehicles why shouldn’t I be able to without games? This is what I hate about the Porsche model and why I stopped shopping there years ago.
In fact the meaning of my speech was rather to say ironically that faced with the lack of buyer of the FUV, Ferrari offered a Roma to stimulate the purchase ... Just a joke
Have to say that the only way Ferrari could get me into Roma is if it was free! In fact that is exactly what they did - I had one as my curtesy car for a week whilst my F12 was in service. I use my cars daily, so the Roma did normal duty and I put 1000miles on her in a week. What a bloody awful vehicle. Every single person involved in the interior should be shot. Whoever signed off the boot should be shot. Whoever signed off the engine and exhaust package should be shot. For such a good looking vehicle to be so crippled by the rest of it is almost criminal Anyway, back to the point of the thread. Interesting teasing snippets Day and thanks for them. To be honest, the most critical thing for me is what size the F167 will be physically. The 812 unfortunately was an F12 in a fat boy suit. I’d love the 167 to shrink a bit, something between 550 and F12. Make use of hybrid to drop the V12 down to 4ltr, so we can shrink that Nimitz sized front end. As to cylinder de-activation being bad…hell no! It’s a brilliant thing. Drop her down to 6cyl on the cruise at 70-80mph, 5mpg and it’s win win. Wake her up when you prod the loud peddle. I had this on my SLK55 and it worked a treat. I can only presume ppl who don’t like it don’t use the GT cars to do GT driving over long distances on a regular basis.
I think you’re missing some things with the 812 v F12: more HP, rear assist steering. Better suspension.
Both great cars and the looks between the two are both divisive and subjective. Personally I prefer the 812's aesthetics as I think its less pretty but much more aggressive. Objectively however is a different matter altogether as the 812 is a very big step up from the F12 in all dynamic measures. This is as it should be as its a much newer car with five years more development time to call on. Roma not my cup of tea but I've met plenty who love it and placed an order after having a long test drive in one. Its great we like different things otherwise this world be a very boring place. Variety is the spice of life.!
Couldn’t agree more on the first paragraph…I have a Roma too and I am a fan but it’s a totally different animal from the 812. the sf/gts is an f12 in a fat boy suit? I don’t get that comment. You may not like the styling but it’s a better car on every level save the gpf. I loved my f12 and I sold it. My gts is going to my kid, hopefully many years from now.
My 812 hasn't got the GPF however I'm still rather sceptical on whether or not a 812 with it fitted is noticeably worse. Forums have a rather unique ability to convince people on what's better or worse based on opinions from some who have never experienced both.
We love our 812 SF. I don’t understand the hate, but oh well. It is pre-GPF. Have not even seen the Roma in person but if 812 replacement looks more Romish, I’m gonna be tempted! Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Size is bad chaps. Smaller is better. Ergo the 599 going on a diet and shrinking to the F12 was a good thing. It then going on Big Mac binge and wearing the XL pants was a bad thing. I would dearly love the next iteration to take advantage of being able to downsize the engine and thereby downsize the front end of the car. Neat, efficient packaging is a lot higher on my priority list than rws.
According to Car Buzz, The 812 SF is 1.6” longer, 0.1” taller, and 1.1” wider than the F12. Front width and wheelbase are actually the same. When I look at our 1997 Porsche 993TT (or a 275 GTB) next to modern Ferraris, I realize that sportscars have grown a lot over the decades. But the F12 is hardly a tiny tot compared to an 812SF. This is all true but when I look at the 812 vs. the F12 the 812 looks much bigger to me than it is. It's an optical illusion for sure, but I can't get over the difference in look, this I think is the mastery of Pininfarina they are great at disguising the size of the F12.
Not judging the comments here but those that are not loving the 812, have you seen it in the flesh? I initially passed on an f12 because I thought it was too big until I saw my first one in person and was surprised how compact it was. Same with the 812. You can’t judge these cars on photos…you need to see them in life and your opinion may very well change. Thus my comment on fat boy suit, seems to be someone that hasn’t experienced in real life because if anything, the 812 looks to me to be on an f12 diet.
The F12 and 812 are pretty much the same size but the 812 looks bigger than it actually is. Its an optical illusion resulting from designing cars to look both more masculine and aggressive. A bit like when a cat or dog gets mad when they fluff up their coats to make them look bigger. F12 looks smaller than the 812 because its more feminine and less aggressive. You either like a pretty car or an aggressive looking one.
I loved my F12, first car I ever specc’d from new (a Ferrari V12!). Then I drove an 812 and I knew I had to get one. From a driving perspective there is no discussion IMO, the 812 is vastly superior to the F12. Not only does the 812 have to be seen in the flesh, but it is even better looking when you see it on the road. My son was driving my 812 back from the dealer and I was in my 458 Spider...couldn’t take my eyes off the 812, especially from rear 3/4 as he went by on highway...gorgeous!
Sigh, yes of course most/all of us on here discussing this have seen an 812 in the flesh. Must admit, not sure there is any universe where I’d call either the F12 or an 812 compact! I’m afraid it remains the case though that an inch or so longer and wider actually makes a sizeable difference in the usability of the car. Especially for those of us in Europe and not the States. Similarly I’d love the 167 to be another inch shorter and more narrow than the F12. The last thing I want is an enlarged V12 up front, gimme a 4ltr V12 and hybrid, around 800hp and I’ll swap my F12 in tomorrow. They can have the wife as an extra deposit. And the cats.
The 167 will look pretty similar to the Roma by all accounts which will please some. If its a hybrid then it'll be heavier than the 812 which is a big no no for me personally. Another point worth making is there is no way it's going to sound as good. It'll be heavier and more powerful and sound pretty ordinary in comparison to both the F12 and 812.
