OK, while trying to replace the accelerator cable I found that if I feed it into the tube inside the car it goes in about 1.5 metres and then hits a turn in the tube and stops.

Equally if I put it in the tube in the engine bay it goes about 1.5 metres and hits a kink in the tube inside the car and stops.

I put a 3mm x 4M piece of wire in the tube and without the outer casing it went from the engine to the end of the tube inside the car , great , so now I try it from inside to the engine and it stops about 30cm from the end of the tube.

So I put some tape around the new cable and the feeder wire to pull it through the tube

Well the wire pulled out of the tape as it was feeding through the tube and when I pulled the new cable out the tape came off about 50-70mm from the end of the tube

Now I can't get the feeder wire through the tube so I tried putting super glue on the end of the feeder wire and pushed it into the tape inside the tube, waited for it to set hard and pulled the feeder wire out slowly but it didn't work.

I'm thinking of heating the feeder wire up and pushing it into the trapped tape

Any other ideas , and don't say call Marc because he's never done this

Here's a picture of the tube which is at the firewall in behind all of the piping

I'm thinking fire but that will just melt the tape (electrical insulation tape) and make things worse

Ok another solution might be to use a flexible coat hanger gauge wire to feed into the tube, if you have a tap n die set create a small thread on the end to twist and grab the tape, thickish mig wire perhaps?

how long is the tube? Get a length of fencing wire and cut it 200mm or so longer.

Jack the end of the car up that's furthest from the blockage. Empty a can of silicone spray into the upper end of the tube, until it's dripping from the other end.

Use the fencing wire to push the tape out.

    To fit the cable.

Get a steel guitar string, feed it through the tube. Guitar string is thin enough to tie in a knot, but very strong.

Tie the guitar string to the end of the accelerator cable using a "thin to thick hitch" knot (see youtube for demonstrations).

Spray silicone into the tube from both ends - you want it as slippery as Greg's spa night. Pull the cable through.

Too hard to get near the tube but thanks

Thanks Ian, I got the same silicone spray idea from the dealer and he said compressed air.

The fencing wire is what I was calling "feeder cable" and from the inside of the car I can push this wire to within a foot of the exit of the tube in the engine bay, seems to be hitting a ridge or something and this ridge is about 6-9"from the tape blocking the tube.

The feeder cable went all of the way through when feeding it in from the engine end, which was why I stupidly taped the new cable to it and had Neralee pulling from inside and I pushed from the engine end .... we got out of sync and the wire pulled out of the tape and then when I pulled the new cable out the tape came off in the tube :(

I knew you'd have some good ideas

    CLINT :p

Yeah, that's my new cable, just won't got through the tube, gets caught a foot from either end

JM crimp the end of the wire over itself with pliers to stop it getting caught on the ridge ( so the end is rounded)…

Good idea Gaz, I'm actually looking for a small metal ball, drill a hole and silver solder then it won't get caught but your idea has merit, I'll give it a try .... after Steve ratifies it :p

Once it’s back through go to Bunnings and get the electrical nylon string electricians use to pull cable through..It’s unbreakable .. Pull two pieces through and tape each one to the full length of the cable with a single skin of electrical tape..There’s no way you will pull it off that way and you are using 2 pieces of nylon to pull it through..

Great idea but I think it's damn weird that I can push the 3mm wire from the engine to the pedal but not from the pedal to the engine bay .... .and also that I can push the new cable from the engine bay to within a foot of the pedal or from the pedal to within a foot of the engine bay

Once I get this damn tape out I'll have it fixed in no time

I'm thinking along the same lines as Gary. If you fold the end of the wire over and then heat the wire red hot to melt through the tape. Once through the tape let it cool off then pull the wire back through and the barb created by doubling the wire should catch the tape and pull back out. I'll keep thinking

What about trying air pressure air to blow out the tape. Do you have a compressor ?

Yes, the dealer had the same idea and that combined with Ian's silicone spray should do it but I'm buggered from laying over the top of the engine all day :(

I also bought a blowtorch to heat up the wire ........ I'll try anything at this stage

But thanks everyone for the ideas :)
