430 Converted Gated F430 Available

With gated 430's being all the rage and the rise in popularity of converting cars to manual there seems to be a missing data point as to what a converted manual car is worth. As it happens this car came up for sale today so it will be interesting to see if it sells for near the $155K ask:

Seems like a good value for someone wanting the gated experience without paying the full gated premium.

 

Interesting, doesn't seem like much of a markup though. Easily $100k purchase, then $30k conversion, plus consignment fees. At least it's keeping the value from depreciating faster. Still, I know I'd be happy getting anything over what i paid for it, so a conversion sort of assures it.

 

It still has the Ferrari Maglite, that has to be worth more than the manual conversion... LOL

 

Drive this one with no regrets, any idea who did the conversion?

 

430 coupes with the f1 gearbox are already within this range of pricing. Depending on how well this conversion was done, and how well it actually works..I would say it's priced for a bidding war.

 

Becarefull with who's converting and what their doing. I have guys calling me and asking me why their F1 pump/relay is kicking on once per minute. I can tell you all that is not normal.

 

F1 pump only runs if the accumulator pressure drops below approx 35 bar. If the car was converted..as far as I'm concerned, all f1 parts should be in a box and sold with the car. That includes power unit, actuator, tcu etc..and all associated wiring either removed or tucked away neatly. Engine ecus replaced with a proper manual ecus and the dash board coded appropriately.

100% Correct. For F430 Typically, if whoever is not utilizing the ediff bypass from Scud Swiss then you need the f1 pump for the ediff. You either need to get the manual shift power unit which is not available from Ferrari, or rewire. I have 2 guys that had theirs rewired telling me their F1 pump comes on once per minute. That's not normal and tells me somethings amiss.....Also Ecus do not need replaced when converting. They need reprogrammed to manual just like the instrument cluster does to

Looks like you are right. A deposit was placed within hours of listing the car.

 

What happens if you remove the power unit on a converted car again? I know you need the f1 pump unit on 430 because of the e-diff, but what if I got the bypass and got rid of the power unit too? (or was the power unit and f1 pump all one piece?) How would the e-diff work without the power unit ?

 

The e-diff effectively won't function, so without hydraulic pressure it will revert to acting like an open differential. For just cruising about, you'll likely never notice the difference, but in my opinion, the e-diff is one of those important pieces of tech that characterizes the 430, and it likely will harm ultimate performance (specifically handling stability and traction out of corners) if you're into track driving.

Ultimately its comes down to personal preference.

 

To be clear, when you say harm ultimate performance, your talking about tracking the car, or driving on the street the way one shouldnt be. Normal driving and as you say crusing about no one would ever know the difference. I know i cant tell and others who have the bypass cant tell either. My car runs and drives like a dream, its so awesome

 

It's madness owning a powerful mid engine car with an open diff. May as well swap the engine for a four cylinder whilst you're at it

No, but it does have a mechanical limited slip diff.

However... most lotus don't have LSD's.

 

Well i guess it could be debated, but all i know is this. I drove my car all over town and the interstate 75 for about a week before i left for traveling. Normal driving cant tell anything is different

If someone needs an ediff to drive their car.. perhaps they should sell it and buy something easier to drive, like a boxster or Miata. One of the main reasons for the ediff was integration of the mannetino. And again, if one needs the Nannies.. they probably shouldn’t be driving the car. IMHO of course

 

I drive primarily on the backroads of the Blue Ridge, think of Tail of the Dragon types of roads. It is comforting to know that when I accelerate out of a 20-45 degree corner or switchback, that the e-diff is there and the car doesn't begin to oversteer because I have very little room for correction before I go off a cliff. I've driven these roads, raced on these roads, for almost 40 years so I consider myself a bit of an expert on how to drive them. I remember what it was like before the e-diff. With the E-diff, I can drive these roads much faster than I ever could before. I'll take every nanny I can find if it means I can utilize more of my available horsepower and increase my speed. These roads have virtually no LEO's on them and are largely isolated. They will test your driving skills to the limit, even with an e-diff. During normal spirited driving say in most areas like a piedmont, you don't need an e-diff unless you have no business in a car with this much horsepower and this light. But in the mountains, I love my E-Diff.

I have a 400+ HP Porsche and my 360. I enjoy driving both cars but like I've said it before, I am not capable of taking each car to its limit.
You don't need to do that (except if you're on the track, of course) to fully enjoy either of them. Lowered speed limits, Insurance hike if caught on reg street, social pressures on speeding etc doesn't make it worth the while. For cruising and total enjoyment you shouldn't need eDiff.

 

Well that's different. You're talkin about spirited driving and if that's what you're doing all the time then that's different. Then I guess you would need a ediff. I am more or less talking about normal around town driving

 

That's all I do in the F430. Agree, daily driving there is no need for an E-Diff, but it would come in somewhat handy when the snow first begins to drop or a heavy rainstorm after a prolonged period of drought (lots of oil on the road).
