Battery woes

    I have a 2005 f430. I drove it a week ago then parked it and put it on the tender. Today it's as dead as can be. It seems the door didn't shut all the way so it's been that way all week. Maybe it drained the battery faster than it could maintain? The tender says the battery is bad.
    I’ve tried to charge the battery with just the tender and it gets to 6 volts then says the battery is bad.
    Should I try a regular charger? Maybe I Need a new battery. Just seems sudden as it was always fine. Any ideas? What to get and where from.

    How old is the battery? If it's three years or older you probably need a new one.

    Given how sensitive to battery voltage these cars are I would just replace it, its probably the cheapest and easiest to change part you can do on a Ferrari!

    Put a standard battery charger on it ( not an electronic type) which will probably charge it at 4 amps and see if that helps, once you have a good overnight charge in it put the normal tender on it and see how it goes.

    If the battery went that low you may have to hook it up to another battery to get the voltage up. A lot of those chargers will not work (by design) if a battery has deep discharged....but I agree, if it's a few years old, just replace. I don't trust batteries that have been deep discharged.

    Anyone have any battery suggestions? They don’t seem to be easily found.

    If you have not changed a battery in a 430, be sure to wrap insulation tale around a 10 mm deep socket when you undo the clamp bolts, very easy to short socket when taking the red one off.

    I would add, if I am thinking about it correctly, to always remove the negative terminal first for the same reason and possibly cover the post before moving to the positive side.

    Turn battery switch off first before taking any socket or wrench to it. This disconnects the ground terminal of the battery from the chassis and should avoid the short circuit that you mention.

    The switch in the front boot does not disconnect everything as their are aux grounds on the negative clamp, prior to the switch

    Interesting. I haven't been able to find what the additional wire/s on the battery are for. On the early 360's, the alarm siren earth wire was hooked up to the battery (not via the cutoff switch).

    I've seen videos showing at least one additional earth wire on the F430, but the wiring diagrams don't show the siren hooked up to the battery.

    If that is the case, then the whole purpose of the battery cutoff switch is defeated. I don't believe this to be the case. If there is any remaining ground(earth) connection that bypasses the switch then effectively the battery is still connected. As Qavion mentions it is not on the wiring diagram.

    I dont see the tracker on the diagram either. How can it work if the trunk switch turns it off? Easy for tow truck thieves.

    Uk cars have trackers as standard with their own batteries, it even alerts to jacking it up or battery volts, broken glass etc. The engine can also be shut off if it has been knicked

    Note that I only have wiring diagrams for the Scud. The regular 430 may be different. I thought I saw a wire in a recent Tavarish 430 Scud video, but after rechecking, I'm not so sure.

    The middle terminal is the main one which goes to the cutoff switch. I'm sure the only negative battery cable which is cutoff from ground is the middle one. I don't see why the little wire I've seen on the adjacent negative battery terminal (in the earlier link to a USA 430 video) would also go to the same cutoff switch.... Why have two wires?

    Disconnect the ground terminal first, assuming it is accessible.
