Exactly like a Capristo 2 and 3 . If it’s not quiet when bypass open, what is the point of a version 1 again? Hmmmm. Anyone have a Cap 2 or 3 with a different experience? It should be noted, Jason L @Ferrarista98 , received his Sound 1 muffler straight from Germany in a few days. Sound 1 is the least ordered variation, but they just so happen to have it in stock. Hmmmm. Pretty sure the muffler wasn’t marked either. Just a sticker slapped on a box with whatever version you think you want . @MAD828 just received a freshly ordered “Sound 2” last week. No marking on muffler as well. Just a “Sound 2” generic label on a box.
Interesting. @Senshi458 you might have a Tubi race muffler (non Tubi Evolution). Chime in here : https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/which-tubi-muffler-non-evolution-do-you-really-have.651951/page-3
It’s an interesting thought Ken. My muffler is almost installed. Just getting the alignment and tips to hang right in the bumper. Once I fire it up I’ll let everyone know my impressions on whether valve closed is same / similar to stock as that was what I was going for / need. When valve closed, Cap 1, 2, and 3 are pretty quiet. Almost silent quiet. This is precisely my point. Might even be quieter than stock, but I wouldn’t know as I have no experience with the stock muffler. So the question remains… what really is the difference between the 3?
Does anyone have pics of a factory muffler cut open? I saw them once, cannot for the life of me find them through searches here and online...
I have the Capristo stamped as a '2'. It is most definitely louder than stock at idle and during valve-closed driving. But still quieter than the Dimex (Tubi-like) it replaced. Valve open is of course another story. From the information I was provided at the time of purchase (2017), the '3' was essentially the same in sound output as a wired-open '1' or '2'. But it would appear that this is just one version of the truth based upon other accounts here. If I didn't need to consider neighbours, I would be slightly underwhelmed at the relatively muted valve-closed volume. It was here the Dimex was superior. But valve-open it's another story altogether.
Helpful perspective, my understanding when I purchased was when the valve is closed, all of the exhaust gas goes through the muffler and the amount of packing in the muffler differs between 1, 2, and 3 which is why they advertise, +10 dBa, +18 dBa, and maximum increases in volume for the 3 versions. When valve is open, the bypass tract becomes available so exhaust gases are both going through the valve closed tract as well as the newly available valve open tract. For the Capristo design and likely others, these 2 tracts do not mix, unlike the factory muffler, with the valve open tract exhaust gases simply exiting through the tips with little muffling. Someone please illuminate me if my understanding is off. Of course this is all theoretical, what matters is how it actually performs and sounds to my ear!
My old F355 had Capristo level 2 + no cats, the sound was too high for me. My current 355 have Tubi + cats, and I think sound need some more. So I will upgrade all manifolds + cats to Tubi Image Unavailable, Please Login Had the car in 2007-10 here som more pictures: https://www.detailersclub.no/forums/topic/6396-ferrari-f355-berlinetta/
2.7 or 5.2 car? It’s important to note when describing as a Cap sounds different in a 2.7 and 5.2. But put yourself on the list for a Cap “2” and “relatively muted valve-closed volume.”
Beautiful car! At first glance it appears to have FHP brakes, but I’m going to assume, since it is a 97 car it is not equipped with FHP? Perhaps others might have a different experience, but at first cold start up, car is loud. Once it gets to temp, I believe the idling volume tones down a notch or two.
That car has crazy story, its actually 99 model but in Norway very strange rules. In Norway there is rule where you can use cassis of wrecked car to import new car without pay any taxes on the new car as long as you use engine + drivetrain from the wrecked car, so the owners way before me imported this 99 model and reused a 97 chassis on this... they never used the engine + gearbox from the wrecked 97. When I bought this car I didn't know that story, as there is no system like US in Norway. So that car had the FHP from factory + manual but the car was involved in major accident some years before I bought it, I didn't know that either... Most of the people in Norway know that. Now the car is sold out and in NL (NOT BY ME)
Interesting story for an interesting car . So both the 99 and 97 chassis were wrecked, but 99 chassis was probably more wrecked than the 97 chassis? With stuff like this, it’s hard to tell what was done unless closely inspected. You’d have to assume the people in possession of the 99 car was aware it was an FHP car and know exactly what parts make it an FHP. Then you’d also have to assume they can still extract key components reasonably from the wreckage. The FHP quick steering rack and pump are hard to get to in a non wrecked car, let alone a wrecked car. Then there’s springs and sway bars from the front. If that wasn’t transferred over, then you have FHP rear springs/sway bar combo’d with standard front spring/sway bar. All speculation of course. Detailed pics of the these components will tell a clearer story. Car is off your hands now, so not your problem, but I’m sure whoever owns it now wants to really know what the car still has and if it drives funny and why. Without knowing exactly what was transferred, he’ll never figure it out. Might not even have the FHP damper ECU either . Hard to tell from this pic if it has FHP rear springs or not. The 1997 car was more wrecked from my understanding, the 1997 yellow car that this car used the chassis the owner of that car escape death. This 1999 car was was wrecked very badly after the dealer borrowed it to some customer for test drive. This car had accident I think 2003-4 from what I know most of the from part was gone. So the car had before originale fenders, but after the big accident in 2003-4 they changed to Scuderia shields fenders. Also I think the steering rack got changed to normal after the crash in 2003-4 + all front parts. If the owner search VIN number he/she will get all info as I have posted on this forum with VIN number the information I remember when I bought that car nobody told me anything and I had do to a lot of digging to get the true story out
