Really? Why, was it a private party and all guests signed an NDA? Maybe Dodo didn’t want to be seen by Merc execs to be partying after so much bluster about protests and accusations.

Someone else mentioned the Merc fiasco in DTM—coincidentally at the expense of RedBull/Ferrari—and which may be why they expected Max to maybe take out his main opponent as it worked for Merc in DTM.

 

I have to admit that in 2012 I thought he might not become a great driver precisely because of this detail (too long to explain). How wrong I was because in 2013 he just broke everything by winning the world championship, the European, the WSK, etc.

I feel especially happy after what happened yesterday because even back then he was a great kid in real life. And as far as I heard from people who have had contact with him more recently, he didn't change a bit.

Bottom line: Toto screwed up by not getting new tires for Hamilton. Merc certainly had the faster car, especially on the straights. TOTO BAD!

Yes. Italy is the center of the world for karting. After his winnings in the junior categories basically racing with the Pex family, CRG, one of the biggest kart manufacturers, offered him a contract to race for the official racing team in 2010 or 2011, if I am not mistaken. In 2012 he moved to Intrepid, again with a contract, but in the middle of the season the team was facing financial diffculties and he did a race at Chiesa Corse, where I met him, his father, Stroll, etc. So yeah he spent a lot of time in Italy.

Leaving things to the overtaken driver to have a collision is 100% false and wrong. THE RULES - you know the laws governing racing show it's the person passing that has the responsibility - for any crash, and leaving room. This is the problem on tracks today - and with the clowns in F-1 showing bad behavior... no wonder tracks are dangerous today. everyone thinks they are Senna.

I think the dive-bomb stuff that Verstappen did on lap 2 was on the line. yes, they did not touch, and yes Hamilton got an advantage... but if you are a proper racing driver you pass like Verstappen did on the last lap... that was clear-cut, not a dive bomb, and the devil may care. To me a race driver is a professional, with standards. what Hamilton and Verstappen have been doing is rental karts by children.

I'm an old crumudgen I get it... I feel badly for young guys who did not see real hard racing. these guys are FAR from the greats.

 

The funniest thing is that the English press had already prepared the articles on Hamilton overtaking Schumacher in the rankings..

Sadly there is almost no hiding that is the reality. TV and $$$$$$$$. That is what F-1 is about. sportsmanship, racing etc... - go see a local Kart race - or IMSA.

 

More than impressive, he was a real phenomenon because in 2013 he won championships on both the KF (non-gearbox , only rear brakes) and on the KZ (gearbox, front brakes). That is ultra rare because a driver who is specialist in on type can't be a good driver on the other too. That was the first time people said "he is the new Senna!".
