I agree, Croft annoys me big time, I take very little of what he says as important, he knows statistics because he can google them, but he has never raced & shouldn't speak on anything that requires that type of knowledge, I think the racer commentators do a good job the majority of the time with their experienced commentary.
They did and they are 100% spot on!! WHO would you replace him with? The next guy they put in there could be total flop lol Better off keeping him in that role because he's obviously about the racing. Imagine if he let the race finish under a safety car. YUK! The biggest anit-climax to a WDC of all time. He did what he did so they could race the last lap and even if Lewis won, it was still the right decision because it was amazing watching both men, both equal on points racing to the finish line for the 2021 WDC!! An amazing finish to the season and it may be another 47 years before we see this again. And the nerve of Mercedes to protest it because he didn't follow the rules!! ****..............as if Mercedes have followed the rules to the letter over the last 10 years. ****s! lol
Correct. I actually thought Croft's explanation was pretty fair. I'd also say that I reckon Brundle really wanted Max to win... Oh, and ICWYT...
I can't stand his commentary. However, his view on the end of the race (as posted by PP) seemed fair.
I remember James Hunt, he was great. Alan Jones always had something entertaining or enlightening to add too. Silly signature here to annoy KIAI
Martin Brundle "Does Max deserve the championship? Of course he does," said Brundle in his regular Sky column. "He led 652 laps compared with Lewis' 303 laps. He departed 15 of the 22 races leading the championship including the last seven. He won 10 races compared to eight for Lewis (yes I know, we'll get onto that shortly), and it was 18 podiums playing 17. "And he didn't have the best of luck along the way, until the last few miles of course." Sig www.pless.com.au/mechanics.htm
Must have had time to sit down and reflect!! I can't really see what all the fuss is about. Latifi crashing with some 5 laps to go is what ended Lewis's championship not the FIA. I am no fan of Masi, he's done a pretty **** job this year, but I don't think he did too much wrong at the end of the race. He got the accident cleared and managed to get the race to finish under green. Moving the lapped cars out the way is normal protocol, the fact some were left lapped had absolutely no impact on the race, Masi's focus was getting a clean fight in the last lap. Was Lewis hard done by, absolutely, but that happens overtime a safety car comes out, someone benefits and someone loses out. If Latifi binned it 2 laps earlier none of this crap would've been raised, the lapped cars would've been let through and Max would still have won. If he'd binned it a lap later Lewis would have won and finished under safety car. As I said I think Masi did pretty well under extreme pressure, he was in a lose, lose situation, no matter what decision he made it would've been criticised. I think he tried to do his best to follow normal protocol, he didn't have time to clear all lapped cars so he got away the ones necessary to allow a clean fight between the title contenders. Mercedes has the opportunity to pit and change tyres but naturally elected to hold track position, If they'd changed tyres they may have won!!?? At the end of the day the Safety car nailed Lewis, its happened before and it'll happen again. I would say I think lobbying the race directors by the teams should be banned, I think it just piles pressure on these guys. Can you imagine the pressure on Masi in those last laps with Horner and Wolfe in his ear. They are there to watch the race they don't need teams in their ears every time there's an incident. I needed to get that off my chest, reading all the comments on F1 facebook pages has been pissing me off
Well said Kim. I also think that RB just did the opposite to Merc regarding tyres during the Safety Car period. If Merc would have pitted Lewis, Max would have stayed out and most likely gained track position and the last lap dash (I’m assuming there would still have been one) may have had a different outcome… Whom knows?
