And if you notice how F1 themselves have put that audio clip out there. Interesting. Perhaps a turning of the tide.
I have zero doubts that max is a deserving champion. None. He fought the mighty Mercedes who had a faster car overall, he fought the FIA which made decisions against him from the very first race. Your cheap shots are living just in your own head. Image Unavailable, Please Login
But would he have won the title had the last lap of the race been held to the same regulations as the other 57 laps of the race? no cause under the regualtions it would have finished under the safety car and unless your being allowed to unlap your self your not allowed to over take, so would still be in 2nd place which is where he desevred to finish the championship battle. that Lap MV did, i dont even know what race that was because the rules wasnt the same as the first 57 laps ( or the rest of the other 22 races or seasons before ), so to me, it wasnt an f1 racing lap as it didnt follow the FIA's international sporting code on which all championship races are supposed to be raced under.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.independent.co.uk/sport/motor-racing/formula1/michael-masi-f1-rules-verstappen-hamilton-b1975605.html%3famp I wouldn’t want to be Masi for sure… I think he didn’t manipulate, just caved in under stress and pressure. Who knows who else he had in his ears that day! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Just wanted to add Masi failed to adhear to the first line of the FIA's international sporting code, his actions also do not conform with the first line of the code, so that lap is not an official lap as per the regualtions. 1.1.1 The FIA shall be the sole international sporting authority entitled to make and enforce regulations based on the fundamental principles of safety and sporting fairness, for the encouragement and control of automobile Competitions, and to organise FIA International Championships
It's a very simple situation. Masi has caused F1's integrity to be questioned. That damage cannot be understated. Most long term F1 fans see how bad his handling of the SC and manipulating the rules/regulations to create drama for Liberty media was wrong and very bad for F1. Reality TV has a new scripted show.
‘Caved under pressure’ ? No he followed the plan they had already stated, to let a race finish under racing conditions. They agreed to that because no one wants the season finale to end under a anticlimactic SC. There will be no long term fall out other than the sport moving on just like normal. Masi hasn’t caused the integrity to be questioned. Toto wolf certainly has as him giving orders to race control. That’s the damaging of integrity that Mercedes has been causing for a decade.
Masi initially said ‘no overtakes’, then Horner ragged his ass for having any cars in between first and second and he capitulated. So, no, I don’t think he schemed anything, but he certainly reacted to team owner pressure (why he hadn’t cut their ability to communicate to him earlier in the season is beyond me). Soft and indecisive can’t cut it at this level.
This debate will never end. How about this perspective? Masi followed the FIA's procedures for Max and Lewis, but didn't for the lapped cars between Max and Carlos. In either situation, it's Max vs Lewis in the final lap.
So you think because horner ragged? Masi just says ok ? Toto no mikey ! no mikey! no safety car wth. This has been one tough year in F1 , tons of bs not just this.
Toto Wolff saying 'do not throw a SC car Michael, it's bad for racing' during the VSC was already team principle manipulation, or at least attempted. Naturally Horner is going to do the same. I think Toto Wolff was correct about not throwing a SC during the VSC time, and I think Horner had a point to ask why the lapped cars were not being released.
This isn't about deserved on undeserved - that is a subjective question. This is about the final restart being procedurally not correct. Erm, who is to say that maybe Carlos times the restart perfect, gets a blinder and then divebombs Max? Any number of things could have happened. Why does Max get to attack Lewis, but other positions have the buffer of lap cars in between. It makes zero sense. And critically, it's all a moot point anyway as the unlapping procedure requires a additional safety car lap, which would have ended the race under yellow.
No argument to that point. Yes, Toto was doing the same. That’s why I say strong and decisive leadership is required. Masi was being volleyed all over the circuit by Wolf and Horner all season. My biggest gripe is: why wasn’t Binotto smacking him around also lol?
Who knows Rick there is probably a ton of noise in Masis ears we dont see on tv every race, And as to Sainz/ Binotto there was no air play cause Sainz isnt a WDC contender. My guess
Yeah never know what Sainz does. I doubt most drivers would make a bold move like a dive bomb against either of the drivers battling for the championship, but ya never know. Maybe Sainz goes through in T5 and Lewis drops to P3. The point is, P1 and P2 started the last lap in the position they should have. We all know of the controversy of the lapped cars behind them, but that's a technicality more than some "gift" to Lewis. It had more impact on the 3-10 positions than 1st and 2nd, yet we don't hear the world, drivers, or teams crying about that. Where does it say an additional safety car is required for the cars unlapping themselves? It doesn't say anywhere in the rules than those cars must catch the pack in order to restart the race. It was stated a few times in the broadcast that this was not required. There was nothing in the rules to say that the lapped cars could not have been released earlier even.
In principle I’m opposed to pace cars in any event. Drivers must obey waving yellow flags or be DQed. “Safety” cars allow cars to unfairly catch those ahead of them, in essence not much different from what happened on Sunday. Why should a driver have an advantage that he worked for be wiped out by an incident in which he had no involvement? The types of tracks that are used today are a big reason for this along with a few drivers who really shouldn’t be in F1. .
