I know neither of us will change the other's mind, but within the context of the entire season and even the race itself, I just don't have a problem with the outcome whatsoever. Don't get me wrong, FIA and Masi need to do some serious homework to eliminate all the inconsistencies (much as Jensen, Nico, and Brundle opined post-race). But in spite of what I saw as most inconsistencies going against RB and Max this season, Max pulled out the WDC he deserved. A last lap for the ages.
The only thing sweeter than Hamilton losing the WDC is the crying by all his fans. It’s sweet revenge for all the years we had to endure being called “haters” or “racist” anytime we dared critique the Messiah and some of the “breaks” he got from the maFIA. Lol, I can almost hear the transmission on FChat radio “that’s dangerous posting man”
I agree within the season absolutely, I just don’t like How it ended Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Leaving max on older hard tires and leaving Lewis on brand new softs. Same result, just flipped around--nobody satisfied. What we need is for cars to be left off the road after they can no longer run and have no safety car.
If Lewis would have won people would be saying the same. Hell, many say the same thing about Lewis’ other Championships not being ‘legit”. Either way in the end it goes down in the history books as a win and a Championship.
Ok, as I understand it, less than a day remains for MBz to file appeals with the FIA (unless they’ve already done so and I missed it). What are the odds they’ll do so? I speculate virtually zero. Why? Well, I figure the guys in the board room will be satisfied with their constructor’s championship and will make marketing hay with that for a year, and that they don't want to risk public opinion blowback chasing a tainted driver’s championship on Lewis’s behalf. Plus, they may not wish to risk embarrassment on the strong possibility that the FIA might laugh them out of Paris. What do you think?
Exactly this isn’t Masi mistake’s if Latifi hit the barrier 4 laps before the end. But Mercedes couldn’t imagine the concept of being unlucky.. This is racing like Massa blowing his engine in Hungary 2008 2 laps before the end and losing the title this same year.
If Hamilton had won would this discussion be continuing or would it be a discussion, mainly by his fans, of how he is the GOAT?
British tabloids today said they won't be filing an appeal. Deadline is tomorrow, 96 hours after the race.
I grew to like Lewis but you know take Senna: he came in a poor toleman 15/16 races a year, Nowadays it’s like what, 21 races, over 3 years that’s a full season… over 15 it’s 5 seasons: point is it’s a lot of missed victories, poles, championships etc… Additionally ayrton starts at 24, guys are now in at 17/18/19 so that’s like another 5/6 years on him…believe it or not but after 15 years those guys will have raced something like 165 GP extra than a Prost say… Point is ; hard to compare Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Directly from the FIA! "The ending of a safety car period one lap from the end of the race has been the source of significant controversy, as the FIA's race director Michael Masi appeared to ignore certain parts of the sporting regulations in order to ensure the title battle was decided by one final lap of racing. After details of the final laps of the race were presented to the WMSC, FIA president Jean Todt, whose final term as president ends this week, called for "a detailed analysis and clarification exercise". A statement said the safety car period and certain radio messages between race control and the teams had "generated significant misunderstanding and reactions from Formula One teams, drivers and fans", which the FIA believes are "currently tarnishing the image of the championship". There it is black and white from the FIA! FIA's race director Michael Masi appeared to ignore certain parts of the sporting regulations in order to ensure the title battle was decided by one final lap of racing!!!!!! They will not reverse the WDC, but this is a acknowledgement that Masi created/caused the issue! And did NOT follow the established rules/protocols... The truth from FIA that Masi screwed it up completely & has tarnished F1!
This! The legendary 1988 season with only 16 gps look like an appetizer compared with next year and the 23 races. Too many to my taste, Formula one should remain attractive and not like a football championship.
What will they do about Masi, and the stewards? I am guessing, nothing. What about a fine for Masi for not following the regulations? He fines drivers for breaching regs, so why not him?
I can't find anything on YouTube but I'd love to see the onboard of lap 54 Lewis Hamilton when the sc came out and how much he slowed. If he slowed too much he possibly prevented himself from pitting and get a free pitstop. Looking at the laptimes max lost a minimum amount of time to Lewis on the lap into the pit and out; only losing 6 or so seconds. The gap between the two was bigger than that. So it stands to reason that Lewis also wouldn't have lost more than 6 seconds pitting, therefore possibly still coming out ahead of max even if max didn't pit. If the math works out, seems to me merc lost it on their own strategy **** up.
Pitting is not the issue. All we needed was Masi to uphold the safety car rules which were applied all season.
