Michael Masi gets fired/replaced?

Tell that Stroll, Mazepin and Latifi whom entered F1 because of money. Talent didn't get them in F1. There are many whom have talent but could not get in F1 because of money. Everyone else on the current F1 grid is either fighting for a seat or on there way out.

 

You had Kamui, Alonso, Hartley, Webber to name a few who went to WEC.

Money is everything hence even though Lewis wasn’t poor it is still a feat to make it to that level with his budget, same for Ocon not a rich guy

True but up to a certain age. Once Lewis reached 13yo, Ron Dennis bankrolled him and the rest is history.

 

Of course never believed he was poor but that’s a feat in itself.

And Redbull have numerous drivers.. If your good enough and have the talent you will be snapped up, to think other wise is wrong...

Unless your saying soem where in nascar, or some rally car, or some kart is another racer on teh level of LH and MV and Leclerc and so on, but doesnt have an f1 seat? really? LH was winning things in a tiny budget set up and was beating cars far faster and winning championships... Leclerc too

They all have exp out side of f1.... name me one person who has never raced in the last 40 years that has not drove in another series before f1... Did Tsunoda pay to get in? LH? MV? MSC?

 

The car and tractor was clear off the track. It's not unusual that workers are still on track cleaning up while SC is on track and the call is made it is coming into the pits. No question it was rushed, but obviously it was a non issue as when all the cars went racing passed on lap 58, the track was cleaned up and the marshals were off the track.

 

I’ve heard at least 2 team principals say it’s entertainment. And I know for a fact the fia and f1 chose their world champion in advance.

The communication between the FIA and team bosses have been one of the highlights of the season, it would be a shame to lose it.

But Ross Brawn is right, team bosses should not be allowed to influence Race Director decisions. To be fair Toto Wolff gave an instruction, and Horner asked a question. They can be interpreted the same way, but in actuality are different.

On Sunday, another FIA F1 world championship season of competitive excellence has concluded, and the credit goes to the participating drivers and teams. The FIA congratulates all of them for their performances in this year. It was a hard fight, and the best competition was displayed at each Grand Prix.

The world watched every race with great anticipation, knowing that in the end, there could only be one winner. In this respect, many praised Max Verstappen for his victory, and Lewis Hamilton for his remarkable performance and sportsmanship after the closing event of the season.

The 2021 FIA Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, has prompted a large number of reactions from the F1 community and from motor sport in general, as well as in the public.

The FIA’s primary responsibility at any event is to ensure the safety of everyone involved and the integrity of the sport.

The circumstances surrounding the use of the Safety Car following the incident of driver Nicholas Latifi, and the related communications between the FIA race direction team and the Formula 1 teams, have notably generated significant misunderstanding and reactions from Formula 1 teams, drivers and fans, an argument that is currently tarnishing the image of the Championship and the due celebration of the first drivers’ world championship title won by Max Verstappen and the eighth consecutive constructors’ world championship title won by Mercedes.

Following the presentation of a report regarding the sequence of events that took place following the incident on Lap 53 of the Grand Prix and in a constant drive for improvement, the FIA President proposed to the World Motor Sport Council that a detailed analysis and clarification exercise for the future with all relevant parties will now take place.

This matter will be discussed and addressed with all the teams and drivers to draw any lessons from this situation and clarity to be provided to the participants, media, and fans about the current regulations to preserve the competitive nature of our sport while ensuring the safety of the drivers and officials. It is not only Formula 1 that may benefit from this analysis, but also more generally all the other FIA circuit championships.

Following that presentation and an extensive discussion, the World Council has decided to unanimously support the President’s proposal.

The FIA will therefore do its utmost to have this in motion within the Formula 1 governance and will propose to the Formula 1 Commission to give a clear mandate for study and proposal to the Sporting Advisory Committee, with the support of Formula 1 drivers, so that any identified meaningful feedback and conclusions be made before the beginning of the 2022 season.

To be fair, I don’t really hear people saying it was “cut and dry”, and that there was no confusion. I think most everyone is in agreement that it was a messy conclusion with only seconds allowed to make a serious decision regarding the finish of the race. Masi made a decision that was within his right to do so. Where people are taking acception is that Max is somehow to blame and shouldn’t be champion. He won fair and square based on the opportunity that was presented to him. If the situations were reversed you can be damn sure Lewis would’ve pitted for fresh tires and passed on tha last lap. I don’t see really that it was Masi fault either. You simply can’t foresee every single situation that may or could arise during a live sporting event. So I think the FIA can now use hind sight and say, our rules didn’t cover such a scenario, however unlikely, so let’s review them and change them so this doesn’t happen again. I applaud them for trying to learn from this.

Being a long-time F1 fan who lives in America and the guy who asks the bartender to turn off baseball/hockey (definitely) and in some cases American Football to watch an F1 race (or even qualifying) - BTW not a good idea if you are new to the bar or trying to make friends - I think while the decision was probably not technically correct from a strict F1 rules standpoint (obviously a hot debate) it definitely did generate a helluva lot more excitement and interest for non-hardcore F1 fans than the entire season and certainly the race ending with the cars trawling behind a safety car.

There is a reason NASCAR and NHRA are so popular here - it is definitive for the most part and fairly easy to understand who won - One of the "rubs" of F1 is that is is hard to enjoy if you are a novice fan - Imagine someone catching the "last few laps" of the "race to decide it all" and sitting there asking "why are they going so slow and what is that ugly-a$$ green SUV doing in front of them?" -

I am not saying F1 should be changed or watered down to attract more fans - just saying that potentially could have been a factor in the decision.

And while I am ranting personally FWIW I think Masi thought about the fact that "no investigation was necessary" after LH drove 62 miles <kidding> across the grass after being pushed out by MV on the first lap and gained "significant advantage" by taking the Dubai route back to the track Perhaps he figured he owed the last lap scenario to even things out - ha!

Well here in the US it was aired by ESPN. Which stands for Entertainment and Sports Programming Network...so they are right.

 

FIA have announced an investigation but blame it all on misunderstanding. So they are saying they are still right and everyone else wrong. No surprise- what else can they do?

 

I think most people are not blaming Max, actually. Many LH fans here and on social media are not pushing for the results to be overturned (though some are). There are, however, some who say that Masi followed protocol properly and Merc screwed up by not pitting LH. I think the comment is directed towards that particular sentiment.

I’ll repeat, taking the title from Max will make things even worse. They may (my speculation) nullify the results of that race as a way of accepting culpability for the mess, but that would still mean Max is WDC.

The bottom line for me is that Masi screwed up by (again) capitulating to a team principal. This one left a permanent mark, though.

After details of the final laps of the race were presented to the WMSC, FIA president Jean Todt, whose final term as president ends this week, called for "a detailed analysis and clarification exercise".

A statement said the safety car period and certain radio messages between race control and the teams had "generated significant misunderstanding and reactions from Formula One teams, drivers and fans", which the FIA believes are "currently tarnishing the image of the championship".

There it is black and white from the FIA! FIA's race director Michael Masi appeared to ignore certain parts of the sporting regulations in order to ensure the title battle was decided by one final lap of racing!!!!!!

They will not reverse the WDC, but this is a acknowledgement that Masi created/caused the issue! And did NOT follow the established rules/protocols...

The truth from FIA that Masi screwed it up completely & has tarnished F1!

 

I have been in your shoes and in Tennessee no less. Sports fans in bars hate me more than Hamilton fans hate Masi

Wrong. The safety car rulings have been most cinsistent all season. Masi changed that and decided the championship in the process.
