Awesome stuff. All that aero works and is designed tested in the wind tunnel at Ferrari. Trickle down aero tricks from racing!

Cool to see but clearly shows how Ferrari has been evolving to make the cars more streamlined for manufacturing given their increase in numbers to be made.
    458 > 488 GTB > F8
Less stitching inside the car , less dash parts used to build. The whole front bumper is one piece ( take care of scraping it ) . The aero fins in the back are just one piece now unlike the 488 GTB and Pista that can be individually changed if damaged.

I’ve wondered for 15+ years why they haven’t incorporated the surfaces seen on golf balls on the valences and underbelly in order to decrease the wind resistance.

Probably has something to do with the diffuser. While not required, I believe they work best with flat floors. Also, I think there is a difference in the aerodynamic forces being applied to the underside of a car vs a golf ball. Because of this I don’t think the dimples would provide a significant change. I could be completely off, but I’d imagine if dimples really did that good of a job, we’d see it more commonly. Or at least on hyper cars/halo cars.

don’t the dimples on a golf ball help create lift?

I’m not an engineer but my understanding was it reduces drag because the dimples catch air that smooths airflow the around it. Besides what would “lift” be called if pointed downward? :D:D

Stew has a point though F1 cars and the like would have it if it worked. Right? They wouldn’t intentionally hold back the car or progress? They’re trying to get faster?

obviously you have never played golf with me. Sadly, many a worm has met their demise because my golf ball dimples failed to create lift.

I remember coming up with that idea in 2005 when I was selling CF parts. I talked with the company making 348 and 355 valences at the time and we went back and forth on it - creating the molds was an issue and the concern over patents of the dimples.

Here's one you'll rarely see. The panels on the diffuser in the down position. The diffuser was off for repair and something went wrong. Now they stay down. I'm sure the service center will get it fixed.
