the 575 is the car, I have over 55k on mine and I bought it used it had 5 owners and partial service records
    the car is bullet proof.
they only made around 2000 of these cars during the model run.
and the F-1 gear box is flawless in operation in the manual mode which is the way I drive mine

I just wacked mine on the latest trip
    combat damage
she will be up and running by Christmas
I owned a 93 512 TR for 24 years and put over 110K on that car before I sold it this summer
no regrets, the 575 is stealth on the road and a true Corvette and Dodge killer
If I find a wrecked on I plan on buying it for parts!

Skip. It appears this 550 with carbon sport seats is now sold? ... while the non carbon seat 550 is still for sale.

The modulars car is this one - an ex John Harden car discussed here:
    https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/red-tan-550.492173/#post-144032910
Great car seemingly. And the dealer seems like a good guy. Car is on consignment and since the sports seat car is sold I bet this one doesn't last long.
Also just for reference this car below was for sale a year ago at Prestige for 129k. It needed a major. It also spent forever on Ebay.
    And now it's here:
    https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?listingId=617367077&zip=29414&referrer=%2Fcars-for-sale%2Fsearchresults.xhtml%3Fzip%3D29414%26city%3DCharleston%26incremental%3Dall%26modelCodeList%3D550M%26makeCodeList%3DFER%26sortBy%3Drelevance%26location%3D%255Bobject%2BObject%255D%26state%3DSC%26searchByDma%3Dfalse%26firstRecord%3D0%26marketExtension%3Dinclude%26relevanceConfig%3Drelevance-v2%26searchRadius%3D0%26isNewSearch%3Dfalse&numRecords=25&searchByDma=false&firstRecord=0&modelCodeList=550M&makeCodeList=FER&searchRadius=0&makeCode1=FER&modelCode1=550M&clickType=listing

So you do a belt service for 7.5k and mark it up 100k in 12 months? Sure...... why not?

Oh, and Algar has a new listing coming up. It won't be cheap.

Most interesting to me is the fact that as these cars finally cross over their original MSRPs, and almost no new ones are hitting the market. But on the other hand, no way I'm selling. Too busy driving it. :)

Just guessing here. It may be cheaper to bring a 550 up to 575 specs than to do a manual conversion of a 575.

That may have been the case a few months ago but if any recent price trends are an indication, Perhaps not much longer…

Virtually impossible to update a 550 to 575M spec. For too many reasons to list here.

Right… But you could tackle the big things like….
    + fuel pump upgrade
    + radiator fans
    + motor mounts
    + coil on plug
    + fuse panel upgrade
    + switchable MSW FHP?

What else are the biggies that I’m forgetting?

One other thing to note, 550's over on the other side of the pond are still selling for relatively normal prices, for people interested in one that may seem like a better option to import than buying one now in the US.

I don't know the nuances of importing but does the "25 year" rule mean I could bring in a 1997 car in a few weeks with no additional costs outside of shipping?

For federal regulations that should be it, plus import taxes that I believe are 2.5%.
I've been checking on the E36 M3 market since now we can finally get real euro engine cars in that started production in 94.

@Ferrari55whoa I didn't know Cali had additional issues registering cars if they were imported legally under fed regulations? Is it because of annual smog certifications that they won't pass imports? I would've thought with the massive Japanese import market over there that wouldn't be a problem.

Good point as there is a big difference these days. And this is something I know literally nothing about. That said, I assume finding a reputable shop to do a PPI, flying over to inspect the car yourself, legal recourse if it's not as represented, tax, importation, and shipping are all well travelled roads for some.

I think in the Rosso paid/private section we have talked about the “California problem”.

any car not originally imported to the US is a PITA and then put smog on top of it for any gas car newer than 1975 and prepare for headaches and major expense with a CARB official.

There are always folks driving around on plates from another state but that’s a dialog for a private sub forum rather than a public forum.

Eric- Yup, you can build a really upgraded 550, but.......

Engine, transaxle, wheel hubs, shocks, accelerometers, instruments, fuel systems, TPMS, Motronics are all quite different.

@tazandjan @white out all good points. Especially had “space cadeted” on motronics evolution.

At least just for me personally My Maranello won’t be pushed so hard or tracked to exploit many of the evolutionary 575 upgrades compared to the 550. I love the center tach design of the 575 just wish it was more analog-looking like the 550.

I think @Qksilver and a few others that have 550’s and 575’s really are in fantastic spots!

Better to drown your sorrows and suffer in an FF than a Civic, though!

I suggest letting 651hp at 8K rpm fix your FOMO. :)

the 575 is a better car across the board
its just like the Testarossa vs the 512 TR the 512TR is head and shoulders above the original TR even though it looks the same

I dunno. I couldn't tell much difference in the seat of the pants. Mind you, I wasn't racing, just driving on the street. Plus, the 575 was a flipper car, and I couldn't get into it.

Takes a while to learn how to drive an F1 Ferrari. Pretty clunky until you learn how to use it smoothly.
