Maybe the dealer should list your car on BaT?

If your car is missing the suspension lifter that can be a reason for being not as sought after, for many it is a must have especially when considering potential re-sell.

Otherwise, I agree, BaT is curious, some cars really enjoy quite a lot of bidding while mostly similar cars elsewhere remain for sale...

For what it's worth, I can assure you that the 575k Speciale sale was completed and it's sitting safely in its new home. Fantastic car!

Is it being advertised well? BaT gets most views. The only other almost identical spec 458 Speciale I see listed is by Ferrari of Central NJ. And I think it was just listed today so probably not your car based on that.

    ZFF75VFAXF0204814. 6,500 miles. $490,000. Maybe after yesterday's auction they'll raise the price?

Yeah, that would make more sense. Mileage is lower than the NJ car and almost identical to the BaT one yesterday. I saw that tricolore listed for a while, too, but I consider tricolore a lot more different than the other one exterior-wise. I think I was swayed by the LordVader user name and the BaT and NJ cars being full-on stormtrooper spec. ;)

Interesting I wonder type of response you got? Lots of people called according to the manager but they were again trying to get it at $479k. We had originally listed it for $499k and dropped the price. Then this happened yesterday on BaT. I was called by a major auction house (RM) to have it in their auction but I declined due mainly to almost 20% commissions. I want to be loyal to my dealership but they don’t list on BaT. Also don’t know if yesterday was a fluke. My car has a service warranty through June 2022 and is CPO eligible so I am just puzzled. And no it does not have front lift but the speciale does fine at least on my driveway. I have more trouble with the CGT than this one

I asked if your car was still available and its price; representative commented about the BAT result and how funny that someone else just made an offer below your previous ask, and said they would call back. This morning, they called back with your new, higher ask, and we chatted about a range of things, all being very discrete and respectful of you and your car. I thought they were highly professional, and had people who conducted business the old fashioned (good) way.

I fully understand and applaud your desire to be loyal. You either remain patient, take a somewhat more active role in marketing your vehicle, or ask them to be a bit more proactive. The car market is simply not as efficient as markets that trade electronically, whether it be online auctions, stock/bond/currency markets, etc. You are a gentleman enjoying your life, have a great collection, and wonderful home situation, driveway included! FWIW, I found your car immediately under a simple google search, so it's there if people take the time. Best wishes to you, sir!

Very kind words thanks! I have dealt with them since 1999 and they have been really nice. Yes I did make some suggestions on the marketing side because as you know they are trying to sell volume and jot just one and done deals.

Seems like just about all Speciales that had been on the market have raised pricing $50K-$100K+ as a result of these BaT auctions. Makes me glad I was able to jump on mine from F of Ft Lauderdale about a month ago. There’s no way that I’m willing to let go of my car, but makes me wonder what my car with 479 total miles would bring amid this craziness.

It always comes down to supply and demand, higher prices should entice some to sell. But then what does the ex-owner do with the cash? Crypto, equities, fixed income, private equity, real estate, commodities, other collectibles, or sit on the cash for a while as central banks around the world begin to normalize monetary policies? If another Ferrari, order a new one when the brand is undertaking major platform changes and increasing supply (I happen to like the 296, but EVERYTHING is electric) or older? Maybe just take your Speciale out for a drive.

Indeed! Tomorrow I’ll be taking the Speciale for a Sat am drive in the hills, ensuring to hit 9K with as many shifts as possible, hearing this beast howl at redline, especially now that I’m past the 620 miles running-in period. Good luck to the one prior owner trying to do that with whatever he may have put the money in… I really can’t think of a better spot to park my $$ that would generate more smiles. :D

One auction price does not make a market. While I am in no way questioning this transaction, as someone else mentioned, the BAT platform’s low fees make it a bit easier for people and dealers to try to manipulate the market. A dealer having a car sit unsold for months then raising the price due to one on line ‘sale’ always makes me think of it. The people bidding on BAT surely could have found the unsold dealer’s car on 1 of 4-5 websites in minutes (ebay, cars.com, dupont etc…)

There have been several recent sales of 458Speciales at high prices, it is not just a single sale...

If you look at the car listing sites(autotrader, cars, etc) there are fewer than 10 Speciales for sale (there are others not listed on those sites), point being, it is a sellers market and very few are coming to market even at these higher prices...

As for those other offerings, I think people are not simply buying a Speciale to have one, but to keep and enjoy, so they will be considering the options and simply not buying the first available...

I have owned my speciale for 4 years. Yes I have enjoyed it. I prefer to drive rather than parked and having coffee. Nothing like driving this masterpiece in the twisty roads of the blue ridge mountains. Now it’s time to let someone else enjoy the car and hopefully put more memories together. The next caretaker should do just that rather than park it.

Hmm, if you go peek at like a cars.com or similar "not bat" site, there are several speciale's in the 400-500 range. obv. the aperta's are going higher but it seems like these are mostly still available near their original msrp. i am a bit surprised they havent gone up higher, faster tbh, but i think over time, that's going to catch up. last na v8 and just a wonderful drive all round? yes please.

There was a recent article by Hagerty regarding the BaT phenomenon. I thought it was interesting. There are over 450k members and 175k registered bidders which means there is a higher chance a car gets looked at by potential buyers where as at the online sites visits are likely by people who are looking for a deal on that specific car or just looking for a deal. I don’t know if that explains the BaT premium or added value to the car but it appears people cheer each other on to bid on the cars so a sense of community perhaps? But I know that dealerships don’t necessarily go out searching for buyers they take a more passive approach and wait for calls if the car doesn’t sell within a certain number of days. Thoughts?
