Happy Holidays to all! Took the old girl out for a spin yesterday on one of the last 70 degree days for awhile around here, and suddenly have a scraping/squeaking sound coming from the right rear wheel. I'm suspecting a bearing, but not sure. The noise doesn't seem to be driveline related, as its there in gear and in neutral, and it isn't constant through the wheel rotation. Seems to occur at the same point in rotation at all times. Thought it might be a brake dragging as well, but applying and releasing both the hydraulic brake and the hand brake doesn't seem to matter. I jacked the car up and there doesn't seem to be the looseness in lateral or side to side movement that you see in extremely cooked bearings, so I'm wondering. Is a CV joint a possibility? I've never had one go bad, so ignorant of what kind of aural terror a dying joint would send out. All advice greatly appreciated!

If indeed the noise is emanating from the suspension upright call either your local dealer or Ferrari in New Jersey and see if your car was one covered under the recall and if it was ever done. They will want to know the VIN.

Thanks for the info on that. I'll give the guys in New Jersey a call on Monday. My car is a 1987 3.2, so may have been built post-suspension recall, but it doesn't hurt to ask. Thanks again!

Replaced the entire upright to change axle and bearing sizes.

When you are at higher speeds and take a corner (highway) does the sound gets worse?

CV joints usually make rattling sounds where a bearing has a more humming sound and turning the sound gets worse.

CV joint are not the best part on our rides. I have replaced the same side 2 times now and seen with others that they frequently go bad. also due to old grease.

It sounds like it would if there is a high spot on a brake shoe or rotor. I'm suspecting something has gone haywire with the parking brake shoe mechanism, but I'll know more when I open it up after the holidays. FYI, I watched what I think is your old Youtube video on changing the bearings. Very helpful, and only slightly terrifying, lol.

It's sometimes trial on error finding out what it is. But it is certainly a place to check first without a lot of effort.

I guess they are mine :)

Figured out the weird noise. For some unknown reason, the rubber portion of the suspension bushing on the outboard lower A arm had started to walk out of the shell, and was actually rubbing on the inside of the wheel. Time to order some new bushings I guess. Much easier than a wheel bearing, lol.
