Scarface 1932 Until a few days ago, I didn't even know the 1983 Pacino film was a remake. The original stars Paul Muni, one of the greats of his time. Change Miami to Chicago and coke to booze and that's the 1932 film. Acting is top notch as you'd expect from any film with Muni in it. Great action. Good story. One of the classic pre-code gangster flicks. Other highlights? George Raft. Next time you see a hood flipping a coin in the air to look tough, George Raft coined that move. Pun intended. Famous Raft quote...I must have gone through $10 million during my career. Part of the loot went for gambling, part for horses and part for women. The rest I spent foolishly. Can't forget Anne Dvorak. She's just 21 here. Foxy! That's George Raft she's dancing for, to no effect. T
The Beta Test (not to be confused with "Beta Test" from 2016) Fantastic comedy/thriller. Very dark at any rate. Keeps you guessing till the end and even then not everything is really clear. Highly recommend it.
Frankenstein AD1972- near the end of the Hammer Films era- love them all, especially with Halloween around the corner. Love the Triumph Stag in the film! Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
The Last Execution Grim quasi documentary about the last person to be executed in the former GDR. Very well scripted, shot and played. Not a movie to be taken lightly, but a serious reminder of what a horror the East German regime was.
We watched it with another couple. And we thought the same thing about the BLM tone. Made me despise the movie.
The House of Gucci Great movie, fairly accurate, terrific seventies style photography. Very enjoyable. I'm predicting an Oscar for Gaga.
The French Dispatch Funny, clever and in dire need of an editor. I cut easily cut 30 minutes out of it and it'd be better. Oh well.
Binging on Pre-code Kay Francis pics. Among the better ones I've seen Man Wanted, 1932 Jewel Robbery, 1932 Trouble in Paradise, 1932 One Way Passage, 1932 If you've surmised Kay had a great 1932, you're right! She was the Queen of Warner Brothers until Bette Davis took the throne in the late 1930s. Jewel Robbery is worth watching if for no other reason than for the backless fur nightgown she wears for most of the second half of the movie. It's not obvious how it stays on! My sentiments too and I'll add : the cinematography stunk , Lashana Lynch & Rami Malek stunk , the story was stupid , there was almost no suspenseful action or alluring scenes , I would watch Skyfall a dozens time before I watched No time again.
The only Bond movie I have ever fallen asleep watching - but had it recorded to tried again - same result :-( Any bets on who the "new 007" will be? (Apologies if this is already being discussed in another thread)
I just watched "last Night in SOHO" - quirky and intriguing - very Tarantino-esque - Some good twists - entertaining. Also watched "Malignant" a couple weeks ago - great "scary" movie and a twist I have not seen before - was a pleasant relief from either breathing life back into something already done or regurgitating the same old crap - Just some suggestions - Cheers
Ana de Armas stole the show. They should rename her Jane de Bond and have take over the franchise. The movie was otherwise a parody. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
I like her in Blade Runner 2049 Reminds me of Natale Portman Also reminds me of cute innocent character opposite Bruce Willis in Pulp Fiction
Witness for the Prosecution. 1957. Several great performances - Charles Laughton, Elsa Lanchester and Marlene Dietrich. Imitation of Life, 1934 Claudette Colbert and Louise Beavers Excellent. A very frank and progressive film on race given the year in which is was released. Beavers should have gotten an Oscar nomination. T
Lethal Weapon- the other Christmas action thriller. As good as Die Hard? Don’t think so but a good ride nonetheless Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
