How much are our cars really driven though? Sure a normal DD, might substantiate this (however, I never had a drop of this nature w/ a DD), and I think w/ the majority of us probably putting less than 2k a year on the car, we will have fresh fluid changes, way in advance of this occurrence.

True. Let’s not put all our faith in the NHTSA to get it right. My 458 is fine. The brakes aren’t great at low speeds and cold. They are just fine at the track. I’m driving mine and will await what the next step is.

Not an internet myth. My car lost all brake fluid and none was found external to the brake booster assembly, only in the assembly. This was just 5 months after its annual service

So I spoke to my tech of 2 years, who was recently promoted to manager. He said 100%, the cap and software fix is coming out next week in a letter to all. It's a TBD on parts and once the dealers receive the parts, Ferrari will send out another letter stating as such. He said both Ferrari and "Bosch", said this is the fix!

Precisely. My brake light switch was also malfunctioning after I installed the new M/C & booster and I just replaced it. It's a $60 part and very easy to do. Based on your receipt I see it can be calibrated instead.

Ridiculous. Glad I did my own recall...

No, but I did ask about that w/ the seepage into the Bosch part and hard pedal others have had before. He responded that both Ferrari and Bosch found this as the solution and in his opinion, it would be non sensical, for them to put out a BS fix for such a safety item. We shall see......

IMHO, I think it's small minded to think this way. You think that Ferrari and Bosch, w/ all their prominence, reputation, history, lawyers, etc., would want to risk a BS fix? Say John Doe, get's this fix and in a short period of time, the brakes fail and he dies and or kills others. Ferrari and Bosch, would get their balls sued off! Then multiply that by whomever else has and does the same thing. Put together a major class action law suit, that can be devastating to the brands. I think it's solid and they are way beyond the penny wise and dollar foolish mentality, which to me, is amateur hour.

Happy New Year to all FerrariChat subscribers and owners! I'd like to comment on the much debated Ferrari recall issued on 10/23/21. The fact that many 2010-2019 Ferrari 458 and 488 owners have complained on the FerrariChat website about a "hard brake pedal" or "pedal to the floor" brake failure issues dating back many years is a MAJOR SAFETY concern that should be taken seriously by Ferrari and Bosch years ago instead of waiting until 10/23/21. The known of brake defect has finally been acknowledged by Ferrari in the NHTSA recall has been deadly in at least one incident in Hong Kong in June 2015. According to reports I've read on the FerrariChat website, there have also been collisions, near collisions, injuries and litigation related to loss of braking capability failure issues on our 2010-2019 Ferrari 458 and 488 automobiles since at least 2012. Ferrari and Bosch, who designed, manufactured and supplied Ferrari with the brake assemblies that are potentially leaking brake fluid into the booster, are investigating the "root cause" of the defect that is causing the loss of braking capability. Replacing the existing brake assembly that is the focus of the brake defect investigation is not a remedy. No remedy presently exists. The 2010-2019 Ferrari 458 and 488 automobiles we presently own are not SAFE to drive! If our brakes fail and we injure, kill or damage property we would not have any legal defense based on Ferrari's notification of defect letter sent out to owners dated November 9, 2021, that should have been received by all 2010-2019 Ferrari 458 and 488 owners. Ferrari and Bosch both have a legal obligation to keep us and the general public safe. I had 2 complete "pedal to the floor" brake defect failures on both of my 2018 488 GTB's on 6/4/21 and 7/17/21. I was injured during the first complete "pedal to the floor" brake defect failure when I had to jump out of my running and moving Ferrari onto the ground just before my 488 entered and sank in a pond behind my house and experienced the complete "pedal to the floor" brake defect failure twice. I could have been killed and injured other motorists during both complete "pedal to the floor" brake defect failures. Last month, I filed a class action lawsuit against Ferrari and Bosch and invite any 2010-2019 Ferrari 458 or 488 owner to join me in holding Ferrari and Bosch accountable for making our Ferrari's safe to drive and compensate us for any injures or damages we as owners have sustained or will sustain including cost of repairs and diminution in value claims. There is no cost to join the class action lawsuit.

I like how people who have not experienced this problem say " It didn't happen to me so it must not be true "

You can come and drive my car and give me your comments then.

Trying to see if anyone that experienced issues can chime in... I'm currently battling a brake issue and dealing with a worthless dealer...

This summer if get half a soft brake pedal. If I brakes and let off, then got back on the brake pedal it'd be firm again.

Bleeding the brakes helped for about 1500 miles.

Recall seems to be loss of fluid at the cap. I don't seem to be losing any fluid.

I can't chime in about your issue, however there is nothing that states the loss of fluid @ the cap. The "fix" the Ferrari will be issuing this week, calls for a cap replacement and software update. The new cap appears to be issued, to work in conjunction w/ the software. Maybe it has a sensor in it or the likes...

Just spoke to my service manager about the brake fix. His response "... believe they sent letters to effected vehicles but also stating no parts are available at this time"

I just had a strange thought. Maybe the replacement cap has a pressure relief function that releases any positive pressure in the reservoir. Maybe somehow the original design built up pressure in the reservoir that somehow caused fluid to leak into the booster. Seems unlikely, but I am just trying to think up some way that a replacement cap could possibly solve the problem of fluid leaking into the booster.

So this letter says 458 vehicles…so the 488 is now unaffected?

BTW, how do you check the level? I can’t see any min or max line. Maybe it’s easier to check how much down from the bottom edge of the round fill cylinder. But how far?

The cap is only going to vent any pressure so the pressure is kept at atmospheric, if you drill a bigger hole in it, it will ensure the pressure is atmospheric but the fluid will leak out if you hit the brakes hard. It might end up with a replacement cap and better venting arrangement.

    I also received mine today.
With no part available at this time I guess it would be better not to drive the car.
I check the brake fluid level every week or so to make sure that it is full, but I am not
sure this problem is the result of a slow leak or a rapid evacuation of fluid which would be horrible.
