What is the current consensus on the best oil for the gearbox on the 575? I have seen recommendations from redline to Motul to Ravenol.

It looks like Shell now makes a "Spirax S6" 75w90 GL-5 gear oil; I can't find their (I guess out of production?) S5 oil anywhere.

I like Ravenol J1C1109 (75w90 full synthetic) in my TR...was going to lean the same unless consensus leans in another direction. Was planning on 11 bottles aka 11L.

Since the 575 doesn't have soft metals I would use Mobil 75w90 like I used in the 512 tr

My indie uses shell s6 axrme

    Hope that helps

Thanks! I have heard that oil that has too many low friction additives can result in the F1 system ‘pop’ out of gear when warm, hence the thread.

As far as I know, the last Ferrari with iron synchros was the F355. I believe all the 65 degree V12s use brass, but would have to ask Brian or one of the other experts.

Thanks Flash. I realized I typed the wrong fluid in the original post. The J1C1109 I was referencing is VSG.

Have others used it without issue (smooth shifts, no chatter, no gear popout)?

I posted in technical as I assume there is overlap between the 575, 612, and 599 in best fluid.

That is the capacity but you probably will get out 3.5 l ...after opening plugs ..let drain for an hour or more especially if cold ...

I would also run the car with the wheels in the air for 1-2 minutes after filling. The oil pump operates off the output shaft on that box and we see a huge number of boxes damaged due to low oil levels causing gear pitting in the 4,5,6 gears. If it is full to proper level now our technicians drain into a container and ensure the same amount goes back in as another level of protection.

I bought a 575 manual new when they first came out. Second gear was very hard to acquire when the engine was not warmed up. After 200 miles I changed it to Red Line gear oil and the whole thing was much smoother. FNA offered to put in a brand new transmission. I refused as the situation was so much better (and the break-in period was early). 'Have used the RL gear oils in every exotic. I think others may chime in that Red Line makes great motor oils but perhaps the best gear oils. I feel the others are fine but if you want the best...
