Mercedes broke the rules. They over-rode their driver's desire for new tires ... tires which could have easily won him the race. Hamilton knew it, and complained over the radio.

    over-ride = break rules

    Mercedes broke the rules.

    Lewis talks to cameras:

Wow, he is full of himself. Fake, saying what people want to hear. If he did a Kimi and goes silent, we'd have respect for him. F*** the media, keep it real.

Lewis does a Kimi and goes silent:

Diva, Martyr, Crybaby, why wont he talk to cameras or the media, tantum throwing child.

This guy really can't win eh.

I think he's looking for blood. Basically, Hamilton is saying I'm worth $$$ to this sport, and Michael Masi is worth (wind blowing in the air)

F1 is about the bottom line, we all know what will happen once the FIA investigation is complete.

Downside for Lewis/Mercedes is that FIA has no real financial interest in F1 (I think 1%). Just like when Schumacher retired, the world kept on turning. So Mercedes/Lewis can stamp their feet all they like, to threaten them with something the FIA doesn't care about, not really going to matter much.

What irks me about this situation is that Mercedes kept quiet all this time and never cared whenever Masi/FIA did something incompetent. But the moment it goes against them, they demand a sacking.

If the FIA bows down to this now (specifically firing him over last lap Abu Dhabi), it's a very slippery slope.

If the FIA fires Masi, it's not to bow down to any party, but because they realise he is a liability to the organisation.

Several key decisions he made in 2021 were controversial.

You can't have a legitimate world championship with $ billions invested if the rules are like moving sands.

If the wording is "for his actions in the closing stage of Abu Dhabi" then it is because of that, obviously. And it'll have been done because 1 team put the FIA under pressure.

If Ham had won the WDC do you believe Mercedes would be doing this ?

I gather it's not only one team.

There are sponsors putting lots of money in F1; they could review their investment in a dodgy championship.

Same for TV channels that fund F1. If the sport becomes a joke, they will walk away.

Never underestimate the power of sponsors !

I don't see Mercedes doing anything; they withdrew their protest!

You are barking up the wrong tree here !

Mercedes withdrew their protest in order to buy themselves more leverage in the various machinations which includes getting rid of Masi.

All speculation ofcourse, until the FIA publishes its minutes.

Hi - WE WOULD EXPECT FERRARI TO DEMAND SAME IF CHARLES WERE SO AFFECTED. :)

In case you dont get my point. Its not about Mercedes at all. The 'insiders' pushing back are the OTHER TEAMS. They were ALL AFFECTED. So give them a nice call if you are at all confused

PS - REDBULL are part of that. That could have been Max in the lead with a Ferrari chasing him down to win a ************************* filled title yes?

Big picture its good some clarification of rules will come out to make the sport BETTER!

Can you literally imagine how LOUD Horner would be if Max were so DENIED LOL. IT would be DEAFENING!

IF RedBull are silent its not because they dont like what is taking place within the FIA and its 'study'.

Media platforms only care about audience size.

Abu Dhabi achieved double the normal audience for F1 in 2021 on YT.

No sport will support a bad referee for long.

Masi has been a liability for F1 all year, Abu Dhabi being just the cherry on the cake.

You can expect a final to attract more viewers than any race during the season: that's not the real indicator.

But as I said, sponsors can move their advertising to other sports if they like, and that influences TV channels.

Ecclestone and Liberty have been on a roll for the last 30 years, but 2021 has been a bit of a fly in the ointment.

Not heard a single complaint from any sponsor, and it's been a month. Same goes for TV channels, any of them boycotting F1? I don't think so.

Again, if FIA fires Masi purely based on the last lap of the season, that's very wrong. It HAS to be for continued incompetence.

Sponsors don't go into polemics, that's not the way they work. They operate discreetly and don't explain publicly their decisions.

I know people who work in advertising and I was close to 2 major corporations that are big sponsors (SHELL and DHL).

Every aspect of their investment is examined by a pool of observers all through the sponsorship period.

It's not only about exposure, but audience quality, socio-economic conditions, ethical angle, and other criteria.

As for Masi, I would think it was his "continued incompetence" that sealed his fate; he has become an embarrasment for the FIA, IMO.

Ecclestone was certainly on a 30 year role. He was a racer.

Liberty may be choosing to take things down the Disney route
