Yeah, different times I think mate. I finished school end of 1997, was 18 in 1998 and moved out in 2001. Wish I could have moved out sooner, but put that rent money towards house deposits while living at home. Good friends that moved straight out at 18 years old, straight after school, didn't manage to buy a house till their late 20's as they put themselves that far behind paying rent for all those years while trying to save for a house deposit. But all good, they got there in the end.
Yeah, doesn't do drugs, doesn't speed, doesn't root women or men, only works 4 days a week (bludger!!) and is just waiting for me to die to get everything I need to get him DNA tested, can't be my kid
Different strokes for different folks - was never interested in being committed to house in my 20s and saw a few friends miserably tied to mortgages while we travelled every year. Didn’t buy a first place until mid-30s BUT had nearly 50% deposit and paid the rest off within a couple of years. Saved up some more to buy a block of land and built the next house with a small loan secured against the first house so by 40 I had a mortgage free home and tenants in the old house paying off the small loan. IMHO, buying too early with minimum deposits just commits people to endless loans. So many people these days with huge mortgages and little or no equity...
There is a talk at Zagames in Melbourne by some bloke called Carl. They say it's about preparing for a Concourse event but I think it might be more about etiquette at a gay spa night NTTIAWWT. So if interested in either subject go along. It might be both exciting and informative.
Very good and you are right, different people do things differently. My friends who didn't purchase back when I did, never travelled or did any of that stuff because they could barely survive paying rent etc. But I know what you're saying and you were fortunate enough to have gone down the road you did at that time.
Verboten actually. At the Concourse talk Carl will pay particular attention on how to maintain tail pipes.
