Didn't have to be as the car had only been driven 220 klms before I stuck my arse into it.
We then drove 1460 klm up the Bruce, giving a total of 1680klms since the whole recond unit was fitted.

It had leaked about 100mm on the trip through the pinion seal and the CV shaft seal.

Correct but I don't hold the dealer responsible in this case as the issue came to the fore the further the car was driven and with the documented invoices it wouldn't stand up I wouldn't have thought.

I wouldn't have thought that sitting for about 8 months would have had the reaction of:
A loosening the nut holding the pinion in and damaging the seal and creating the movement that has worn the crown wheel certainly and probably the pinion to 'useless' condition.
B creating pitting on both CV/axle flanges to leak oil.
C effectively 'sanding' the LSD clutches to render them non LSD.
D the diff was down but not terminally but the steel/iron filings on the magnetic drainplug are testament to the amount the whole lot was moving around inside the casing.

I just talked to the local Holden Dealer here JM in regards to selling my 14 year old Hilux for me. (Purchased another one to buy and sell lol)

He said when it's on the lot, he has to supply a 3 month stat warranty, which I already knew anyway, but yeah. Only told me that last Friday when I was there.

In my experience, differentials have to be run in.

220 klms isn't anywhere near enough.

Wes If I could post the pics from my email you would see, obviously with some guidance in your case, that the diff was a grenade waiting to happen.

Cool man, only going off what he told me last week. :)

If he didn't have 200 cars in his lot, he would sell it for me, but no one is spending since Xmas he reckons.

So if you know of anyone chasing a 2008 dual cab diesel auto Hilux for $20K let me know. I am going to sell for more online if I don't on-sell to one of my mates. :)

Simon have you had a mechanic go over it with you or are you using your own mechanical knowledge?
Not being a smart-arse - genuine question, as I wonder if someone without your knowledge (ie. me) could get in this situation and have no idea what has gone wrong and what to do about it.

Was there a PPI done? Would it even pick this problem up?

Doubtful as the diff had only done 220 and talking to the salesman today there were nil signs of dripping on his floor.

    Jon??

A diff that wasn't setup properly when it was rebuilt, will last 5 minutes and can blow up without warning.

They usually make a whining noise on acceleration or deceleration, all depending on how the back lash was setup.

Or no noise at all, if it was too tight and then they grenade. Possibly like this KK's diff now.

This is what started happening at about 1000klms Pap.
When we first picked up the car it was all good.
As I said earlier the whole diff has at least 3 different scenarios,if I could post the pics you'd see what I mean.

Well the supplier to the previous owner is concerned enough to get us to pack it in a crate and have them transport it back to Ye Olde.....
