Top pic showing where the castelleted nut, that was supposed to be staked into a 'keyway' so it can't move (and wasn't) was jammed onto the thread and ultimately had to be torched off! The one below shows how the thread should be. The next two show the crownwheel, the teeth should be defined by knifesharp edges......
Thanx a bunch for these Mike!. The top and third pics show the seal has been damaged by the fore and aft movement of the pinion due to the nut moving. The second pic is pretty obvious,Diff drain plug with extra metal!. 4th pic is of the L and R CV/axle flanges. There is a seal that belongs where the Painted/anodised over pitting!! is,hence oil leak out of the casing. The last is a pic of one of two of the clutches that are supposed to make the diff limited slip ...these are babybum smooth where they are supposed to be rough.
The first vid is pretty obvious the second doesn't quite show the grey mud being poured out of the casing.
That’s bizarre, I can’t wait to find out how this happened, great news your getting support from the supplier Simon [emoji106]
Thats terrible Simon, such bad luck. Bloody useless Poms, what shocking workmanship. They can't play cricket either!!
This whole situation is almost like they've actually picked and packed a unit that was there for reconditioning and not one that had been sorted. These people are highly thought of in the Ferrari community...as I understand.
To be honest mate, if they are well regarded in the community, I'd be surprised if they DIDN'T sort it out for you. They obviously have record of the dif being reco'd. I'm sure they'll sort it out for you.
Far out mate, that is proper ****ed!! Half the crown wheel teeth are chewed to bits, it's like something failed inside and it jammed up and chewed those teeth up.
Those pitted axle flanges are a disgrace for a rebuilt diff. Those seals were always going to leak. Seeing those LSD discs like that, makes me believe that the LSD was setup too tight which burned them up. It's starting to look like a 1st year apprentice rebuilt this diff without any supervision.
Nup that was just from the movement of the pinion against the c/wheel! As I noted the castellated nut wasn't peined/staked and moved enough to then crossthread ,enuff to both foik the pinion and C/w AND be completely unmoveable left or right and in the end had to be die ground AND eventually use the hot torch!!
My guess would be that they didn't have the special tool to do up the nut (Ferrari use those stupid nuts in many places, I have cut up several sockets to make tools for them) and used a hammer and punch to do it up, without noticing that it was cross-threaded or not completely tight.
Cool man, that will explain it as I missed that. Either way, someone either sent it out accidentally or it was "rebuilt" by a 1st year apprentice. Hopefully they resolve this for you asap and you're back on the streets before you know it mate.
That's what I thought, but being a "reputable w/shop" would have the correct specialist tools to torque these up properly. Maybe not eh......
