I went to the dealer today to check on a stunning black Speciale but in the showroom there was also a Pista and honestly I feel I like the Pista much more. It feels so much more modern, especially the interior.

I didn't drive just talk about visuals here.

Can't really explain why as I have a F8 already so buying a Pista doesn't make much sense. I really wanted a 458 but...

    Wrong emotions?

Those seem like normal emotions to me. I would say, don't worry about future value and think about what brings you the most joy when you own it. Maybe take the Speciale for a drive and see how you appreciate the NA V8 before making a decision. You really cant go wrong with either one IMO.

    Quick question about diminished value:

How does everyone here feel about tasteful yet reversible mods on a Speciale or aperta?

Changing exhaust and / or changing air vents and canards to carbon fiber as example.

Popular mods, so would it effect value in your opinion? Keep the original parts just in case? Only use OEM carbon fiber accessories?

Usually changes take away from the value but if they can be changed back without too much agony thats OK. Always keep the OEM parts, why anyone wouldn't keep them is a mystery to me. Making it yours however you like it is cool. Trying to use OEM parts should be considered however there are of course nice after market things available. I am too much of a wimp to play with the mechanics on these cars, they work fine just the way they are (and not to mention how rare these engines are) and if you need something to wrench on and add performance, pick up a muscle car.

As long as reversible, no problem. I’ve changed cat/exhaust on all my Speciales, also have kept OEM parts. I’ve also added CF parts to engine bay and one came with CF gas cap. All good and all reversible.

Congrats on the sale. (I actually bid, hoping to get lucky [emoji51])
I honestly thought and wished it went higher. Someone picked up a gem of a car.

    Thanks guys,

Looking at a car with these mods and looking into if OEM were saved. Doubt it though. Could always get ahold of OEM parts down the road. Not a collectors car so may not matter in the end. Mods I wanted for sure but I would have absolutely kept the OEM.

Thanks P, I know you love these cars.

This is the 2015 coupe at F of Ft L that came on the market this past weekend with 11k miles.

Looks good so far and getting CPO inspection Thursday. Should get a lot of info then as well as PPI to come soon.

Last year I was looking at buying either a Pista or 458 SA, I agree with you the Pistas look more attractive.

The last year pininfarina designed car, the last NA V8 and the limited numbers of the 458SA made my mind up. Furthermore, I can drive the 458 SA at 9/10 on the track and still feel in control.

Its all about that. 458 SA was my only choice. I'm not sure by any stretch that the Pista is more attractive. My opinion is the 458 SA all the way

Someone told me (a SA owner ) that the 458 was the last car designed by Pininfarina .. not the Speciale .. any truth to that ?

I believe that’s true… my Speciale does not have Pinninfarina badges. While the 458 was a Pinninfarina design, I think the styling and aero changes in the Speciale (although evolutionary) were done by Ferrari’s in-house design team, hence no Pinninfarina badging. If others know any different, please correct me.

Yes, 458 Italia designed by Pininfarina, thus wears their badges. Flavio Manzoni oversaw in-house lightening/aero redesign of 458 Speciale, thus it does not wear Pininfarina badges.

I can’t say for certain whether there is any truth to that statement but I have never heard the Speciale being called an “In-House” Ferrari design.

If the 458 was the last designed Pininfarina car then the Speciale falls in that category being a 458. The main design lines are exactly the same.

I believe this is how most enthusiasts would view it.

I think post 1042 is the correct answer. While certainly the Speciale is an evolution of the Italia, the Speciale is not a Pininfarina design and hence doesn’t wear the badge.

This was on the Pininfarina website.

The Speciale is a Pininfarina for sure, there just wasn't anyplace to put the Pininfarina nameplate anywhere since the side nolders of the Special prevented that. Really hair splitting for someone to think that its not a Pininfarina.

Well, we'll have to agree to disagree then. Designed by usually means primary/lead designer. That passage you quoted basically equates to a design credit; as being 'involved' isn't the same as being the lead/primary designer. Seems like it was more of a co-design scenario.
