Forghieri´s career was very long. Even if he started winning right now, I doubt that Binotto is young enough to match la Furia before his retirement.

Mauro Foghieri joined Ferrari just after graduation, having studied mechanical engineering.

His father was working in the workshop and asked the Commandatore to give his son a job.

Forghieri was recruited as assistant engineer, but his promotion at the Scuderia was helped by the "palace revolution" in the early 60s when Ferrari sacked several engineers.

About Forghieri, I recommend the various interviews he gave to Davide Cironi.
    ( Villeneuve, Lauda, 250 GTO genesis …)
    Really interesting.

Gino is a kind of advisor for the Scuderia.
A historical figure directly from the Schumacher era.
Not sure he has a specific role now, but frankly who cares !;)
Everyone loves him within the team..

I think closest what you could describe his role his head of operations these days.

Correct, very much liked guy within Ferrari. I think he's godfather to Kimi's son even.

Though not his own fault, he was the reason for Newey not joining Ferrari years ago! Newey's deal with Ferrari was as good as done, then Domenicalli was sacked by Di Montezemelo (Newey negotiated with him), and for final negotiations, LdM send Rosato...Newey felt kinda insulted that they send Rosato, who wasn't exactly a high ranking member. Had LdM bothered or even the new team principal, the deal could've been rescued.

Remember, this was just after Newey won 4 titles on the trot with Red Bull, so his value was immense. To then send a somewhat mid level guy to do the final negotiations....well, lets just say the sheer arrogance of LdM killed the deal really. Really what could've been...17, 18...19 even? Presuming Ferrari didn't sack Newey for not giving instant results, I guess.

    No doubt.
SF was better when LdM didn't intefere. His huge ego started blocking their flow and success.

Yep. No matter how much I dislike what JT has done to F1 under his supervision as FIA president, his work at Ferrari is nothing short of amazing. He really managed LdM fantastically well....and that's exactly what LdM didn't like.

That said, Ferrari is now worse off with LdM out of the picture as well.

    Absolutely agree,
Unfortunately the decision to hire Dominicali instead of Brawn was a very bad one.
With huge consequences for the next decade.

I met Jean Todt when he was Guy Frequelin's navigator, and there was no sign he would one day lead the Scuderia !

Just imagine for one minute had LdM promoted Brawn to the top job.

    No Brawn GP team
    No Mercedes GP team
    No Hamilton record breaking titles.
    Continued Ferrari success.

That decision was a biblical F.....Up

    Oh yeah..
But I guess Mercedes would have found another way to achieve their objectives.
Nevertheless I absolutely agree that without Ross Brawn it would have been a lot more complicated for them.
With insights we can say LDM lost his own reality after 2004 ..

I don't think Mercedes would've had any intention to field their own team if the opportunity to buy Haas hadn't turned up.

However, that engine was build since 2007 and perfected ever since. Would they have had the political weight to ensure Hybrid V6? Assuming they did, 2014 would be an interesting one. A tight battle with Red Bull and Williams. Would Mclaren still have packed up and left? Seeing as they where the factory team before, would they have produced a better car suited to the engine and actually taken the 2014 title? My money is on the latter being more likely.

I don't think Honda would ever be in F1. But also...would Mercedes have pumped in literal billions for the engine program...for Mclaren? I don't think so, either. Chances are high that Ferrari, Red Bull with Renault, Mclaren and Williams all would've had a big share in success. Several wins and a shot at the title for Williams (getting them out of the poor house), Ferrari or Mclaren 2015, RBR 16, Ferrari 17-18-19, RBR 20, 21.

Tend to to look at it this way, LdM was happily skiing on the Italian resort, at a leisurely pace he was admiring the views, twittering (feathered) birds and thinking life is good to me. As he looked up into the ice blue skies and to ponder more on life, he failed to see the cliff edge and skied straight over the edge. :)
