I get what you're saying, and I would agree if the SUV (FUV-whatever) dilutes their harder-edged cars.

I argue though, it's already happened. The latest cars are already far removed from F1 in terms of the 'racing' feel (not including challenge or FXX.) That purity we're trying to preserve, in my opinion, has long been already compromised.

I thought it was effortless to drive an SF90 that would destroy a Daytona. Yet I prefer the older cars that still make me shake in excitement and provide a sense of occasion that I can only dream of an F1 driver's experiences.

Less I am charged with calling the latest models milquetoast - let me clarify - my comments above apply to my usual grounds, that is public roads. The other 1% of the time, where I find myself behind the wheel of the latest vehicles on a proper track, I require flame retardant underwear. (several pairs.) Whereas I know the former would require a different sort of disposable garment altogether, the one manufactured by Procter and Gamble.
    ;)

    99% > 1, hence i have chosen.

True, it has been compromised. However, cars like the 296 seem like opportunities to focus once again on sports cars. Porsche came up with something great in the Cayman GT4.

Also, while there are massive markups on and queues for cars like the GT3, you can pretty much walk in and buy a Macan off the floor without the games. That suggests there is money to be made by going all-in on performance and style.

Enzo Ferrari did drive several 330 GT 2+2's (and other models too, 250 GT/L, 365 GT 2+2, 275 GTB, 400, etc.).
Driving a car doesn't automatically mean that you own it.

Thank you for your reply. Perhaps the better question then is did Enzo have any anathema to 2+2s?

Indeed, it's called FXX and Challenge.

Unfortunately, for many, It's too 'expensive' and perhaps a bit too 'stylish.' (not to mention you can only enjoy on the track.)

You bring up another good point, should Ferrari go downmarket and create 50,000+ $60,000 vehicles?

I would argue this is not the right way to move foward.

This crappy 330 has been on the market for about four years now.
It was never owned by Enzo Ferrari. It also has a non-matching motor.
But hey, who cares. It's a typical made-up story and the sellers are simply looking for another victim.
    Always the same story.

I thought that might be a possibility, given a seller and you. I place my bet on your judgement.

By that logic how would MB does in F1?
Let's see, MB is known for their luxury cars. They sell lots of luxurious sedans and lately, lots of luxurious SUVs. They even sell some G-Wagons, the opposite of racing cars.
That must means their F1 racing program is terrible. oh wait...

don't even get me started on Red Bull, a company that doesn't even make cars. They have not one, but two teams in F1.

Mercedes has had brand issues since the DaimlerChrysler days. It was once synonymous with quality and prestige, but fumbled it away with low end junk like the C230K and the ugly, troublesome ML320.

Its F1 efforts have been epic, and can only help the marque. But Mercedes remains a generalist, albeit a rich one.

I don’t know about you, but for me a Ferrari or Porsche epitomizes sports cars. I don’t really lust after a Mercedes, in part because much of its output is trucks and (nice) daily drivers. Ditto BMW — I used to own one, but now need a scorecard to keep track of its model line.

Porsche epitomizes sports car despite having 2 SUV and an EV in its line up?
what's different about Ferrari then? how does having 1 SUV make it less of a sports car company?

I totally lust after the AMG Project One and their Black Series cars. Right now, a GT-Black Series is faster on the Ring than any Ferrari product.

To clarify, Ferrari can take the high road be the preeminent sports car maker, or build utility vehicles to increase sales.

I would have hoped for the former.

Besides McLaren there's nobody left on that high road of "no suv's"
I bet McLaren wished they had one during the pandemic they wouldn't have hemorrhaged so much losses

If it’s only about profit, they can just crank out more of what they are already making. There has never been a shortage of people lining up to buy new cars in the last 20 years that I know of. Maybe the profit margin is higher on the FUV. But profit and value don’t really apply in a normal sense when a company charges couple 0f grand for a cup holder or hundreds for a coat hook or thousands for apple CarPlay. That said, I think the two are mutually exclusive. Here in calabasas there are 4 moms I know of which pick the kids up from public school in lambo SUVs so there is definitely a market for it. Also, if the G wagon is any indication with its 100 to 150k dealer markup, they will sell the FUV like hotcakes even at half million.

Why would Ferrari with limited production facilities go downmarket and market $50k - $60k vehicles and make less profit/vehicle when it can sell its all vehicles it makes at $300k and up? They would have to outsource those $50k - $60k vehicles to other production facilities and then likely only Ferraris in badge only. Plus it surely depreciates the Ferrari brand, IMO.

I kind of agree with you but I am of your same vintage. However, Ferrari must look to the future to what current and future generations will want to buy as out vintage of Ferrari buyers is certainly limited in years and the company must keep itself viable for their future success. Just one opinion, I could be wrong……

Not really sure what their plan is. I've heard leadership at Woking said they weren't interested in SUVs long-term and I think I've heard within the last year they would be open to it someday. Would be interesting to see. Maybe the first SUV with an air brake on the back.

I have small pee pee, but a big heart
