First off, looking in the So Cal area only, Orange Co and nearby. Took engine out myself, freshened up this and that and due to a shop location change cannot re-install, no lift, no room etc. I've tried this angle before and with mixed results and yes, engine is still out. I'm not looking for a recognized shop in the area, been down that road. If you don't really know what's involved, then you're probably not the guy. Ok, then why don't I do it myself. Fair question. Answered above. I can't really respond to someone who tells me its a 5 day job. And I get xxx per hour. Good work if you can get it. I guess I'm looking for a realistic soul who can help me out. Thanks

I'm confused. You removed the engine. You do not have the ability to put it back in.

You want to drop-off the car... the engine, and a box of parts to a shop and expect them to put it back together and you want a deal?

Tom, you're very easily confused. Sorry. Yes, there is a difference between ability and capability. Rhymes with hillbilly. I expect nothing but snarky insults and you're the first! Congrats! You really got me good! I bet you get a lot of "Likes" over your reply. Its guys like me that have NO business owning a Ferare as its a elite group and I don't belong. I'm doing this for an Estate, so need to be careful on expenditures. The vehicle is to be donated so every dollar must be accounted for. Tom, you're the best!

Very well. Perhaps the situation should have been explained better in your initial post. Good luck in your search.

I doubt someone who never touched such a car can offer you a nice deal: I did put the engine out and back quite a few time in my 400 (same engine block with simplified heads and wet sump): that's not the sort of job you can perform in a short amount of time on the first attempt.

Please note that as the owner of "cheap" 400i I can understand that from time to time budget is an issue, but this has to be contemplated considering the value of the car... Even if that's a 50~100hrs job, this should not scare a 365 owner. A potential buyer would probably be more afraid by a service record that reveals that you did cut corners.

If I were in your shoes, I would bench-test the engine , I would also get a proper estimate from a reputable shop (I did not say the most expensive) and would sell the car "as is". I don't want to sound rude, but this is what I would expect from a serious seller of such a fine car.

So what is the big deal? I am sure the engine will fall in by itself and start right up the first time. I hear they have some good mechanics at Home Depot that can do everything. Can't take more then a couple of hours to get done. You get what you pay for.
