You drove the F8 and thought all is ok? If that piece of junk does not show you that Ferrari has forgotten how to build a Ferrari nothing will. Ferrari is nothing like you describe. I'm going to go out on a limb and think you are rather new to the Ferrari family.

 

I didn't say all was OK with Ferrari. I did say, "From a strict performance category, I've driven the F8 Tributo and am not worried that Ferrari will ever lose its leadership in performance". Stand by that and would add that comment of mine is in line with the subject matter of the original post. But your insult is noted.

I own a 1984 512BBi boxer and a 2020 F8 Tributo. And I find this forum to be helpful and also, unfortunately at times, unfriendly insulting, and has some people who think the car you own is a reflection of your value. The cars you own just mean that you are lucky enough to have sufficient funds to buy a nice car. Character and class are shown in many ways, but commonly by treating others with respect and knowing that a person's worth is least measured by their bank account. Which is unrelated to the discussion of Tesla etc..

 

That my friend is a perfect combination of old school classic Ferrari and the modern Ferrari. Congrats!

 

The boxer because I find it to simply be the most beautiful automotive shape ever, the last hand-built Ferrari, the flat 12 sound.. and the more aggressive it is driven, the more it comes alive. The F8 because it is the end of an era and line.. as the last of the ICE mid engine V8's, end of a road that goes back beyond the 328/308 to the Dino V6 mid E. But these are my ideas and what I love. I respect everyone's individual preferences, these are just mine. IF money wasn't a impairment, I would add the 1971 365GTB Daytona (front engine V12 Columbo and the car made famous to me by Brock Yates and Dan Gurney's cannonball run), a 1965 250 Lusso for the night out with the wife for an anniversary, and the 288GTO as the precursor to the F40. Nowhere even in my top 100 cars would be the Tesla, a fine appliance that it is.

 

In my opinion, 512 boxers are incredibly undervalued. Mid engine manual V12! Completely analog car! Considering buying one...

 

Boxer prices have come down a fair amount compaired to 4 years ago. They were selling between 3-400k in some cases higher. They seem to have dropped to a good strong real value point in between the 2-300k for a good machine.

Such a cool car. But I think the current value is on the money.

I agree with much of this. Ferrari is the sum of its parts. I particularly agree with the premise that Ferrari will not lose its leadership in performance. I think many here simply have not given true thought about what that necessitates. Even further in the deep end are folks that actually argue Ferrari *should* not worry about bleeding-edge performance.

 

It's maybe a sign of the times and encouraged by social media, that the outrageous statements (F8 is junk) get the reactions when the more considered, measured (and accurate) assessments fail to get attention. Im new to this forum and I hope it continues to evolve away from hyperbole and insult, and towards reason, spirited debate, and valuable tech/knowledge exchange.

 

Indeed, but you'll also find no shortage of pontificators speaking with authority on subjects that they have no knowledge of. Some folks should read and listen well before speaking/writing.

My car usually starts off with saying 395mi range on a full charge, but when I'm pushing it, it very quickly drops to ~300mi range

That's even before the brake warning temp lights come on (this car - 1000+hp - desperately needs significantly better brakes - its utterly dangerous right now)

Similar things happen to me in ICE cars too, I just think if you're a little heavy on the throttle on anything - expect much lower than advertised mileage ranges

 

No doubt the technology will continue to be perfected and be amazing to behold. As long as I can get charging done without too much fuss I’d have no problem using a EV for daily driving or pickup truck sort of duties. But for me the ICE represents something else altogether, for a hobbyist it is the legacy.
I view it much as a quartz watch vs a fine mechanical watch. Of course the quartz is the more sensible choice, but the sublime beauty of a beating escapement in a Patek, ALS, or a Journe (to name a few of my favorites) is on a whole different level.
Ferrari is Patek. Patek has quartz watches for ladies, and they are not sought after.

 

Genius analogy to watches as I love the mechanical elegance and complexity of my automatic watches (Omega Speedmaster, Rolex Deep Sea, and Rolex Daytona) and see quartz watches as "soul-less" but.. but.. they keep perfect time. While performance matters (and Ferraris are amazing performance machines) I guess art and beauty are more than perfect performance.

 

I love the F8 and the 488. I rode along side a guy in an F8, and a 488, got a chance to give them a thumbs up and chat a bit while motoring down the 110 , and then Wilshire blvd, with the 488. I have had the chance to talk with many Ferrari mechanics, and found out about all of Ferraris poor build quality . starting from the 355. As a matter of fact, there is no comparison with the older models, such as my 89 328 with 104,000 miles, with nothing but routine maintenance ,( starter motor, alternator ect. ) and elective restoration, no major failures, no un glued interiors, no bad valve guides, or stems, and this list can go on. Its a shame that Ferrari will not build a car with the same quality that you see in Japanese cars , or American made trucks . I could care less if tesla put in a 5000 HP motor in their cars, Ferrari and tesla should never even be mentioned in the same sentence, its that simple. I have to say that Ducati do not build motorcycles with the same as quality as their Japanese counterparts. Poor build quality or not, I hope I can afford to buy a 488 at some point in the future. or maybe a GT3 manual box.

Might want to check out some of the welds on the 308 cars. Some look like my retriever was using my Millermatic 250.

That's the one-time prep if you want to hit < 2. Then you go back-to-back after that. It takes my vintage Ferrari 10 minutes until I can notch in 2nd.

You can do low 2s all day long. (if that's your thing)

No rule says you have to put the pedal to the metal. You can have a feather foot and the Tesla won't complain.

 

Drag strip mode only lowers your times by .1 or .2 seconds. The normal plaid mode will still smoke pretty much any car outside of the Nevera.

 

Affirmative. That's why I'm so excited about Ferrari's entry into the ring, will be interesting to see in 3 years.

I GET IT. Folks like certain music genres, and it has to be played by a live band.

I prefer live music too!

That doesn't mean I'll throw my radio in the dumpster.

Also, while I do enjoy the smell of petrol at F1, let's just say I put the cat back on my car after going that route one time, not as any courtesy to others - simply because the smell got irritating to me. I do admit, I have not met a person that enjoys being hit with a steady stream of exhaust fumes. (Not saying it doesn't exist.)
