interesting, I thought they were going high volumes with this.

wonder how far they are going to push pricing

Getting my kids out of the back of my Lusso isn't any easier because of the long doors. Ferrari most likely are ok with some bold design language that brings some minor inconveniences.

High volumes is a relative term. I doubt this is going to be a Porsche Cayenne. Given the total sales duds that 612, FF and GTC4Lusso were, the bar is set quite low for the FUV. If Ferrari can sell 2x the amount of GTC4Lusso V12s at the same or slightly higher price point, I think they will be very pleased.

I have had cars with suicide doors they are a big pain. They might look neat but to put them into an SUV seems kind of nuts to me but what do I know. I wonder how many people at Ferrari have lived with a car that had that door set-up not many I would say because if they did they would rethink the concept.

This is not a suprise. Ferrari made its pricing strategy very clear with the 296GTB which many here were expecting to be cheaper (even substantially cheaper) than the F8. The GTC4Lusso V12 had a base price of ~$300k and the Cullinan has a base price of ~$330k so the Ferrari FUV starting at $330-345k (10-15% bump from GTC4Lusso) sounds about right to me.

Getting kids into the FF was easier than it is in the i3 because even in a tight spot you only need to squeeze by one opening instead of coordinating with multiple doors.

Ouch, that's a serious cut above the rest! Somehow I'm thinking more and more this FUV was indeed not designed to compete against the Bentayga/Urus/RSQ8/Cayenne Turbo!

And end around 500k with all the carbon options?

Not to debate, but in needs to have the 1000hp as the SF90 then.

As otherwise what's the point vis-a-vis a 700hp Cayenne for 200k with all the options

SUVs are not the exclusive sport coupes... They are SUVs to get your kids to school

Well, owning both, the margin in terms of value-for-money for a hybrid SUV - not double or triple the price for me.

It's OK to pay double the 992 Turbo price for an exclusive V12 coupe, but not when we get in a wagon territory.

But let's see if Ferrari manages to somehow exceed the expectations

If they put the Roma central screen there - well, they will definitely not.

You can't get to half a million on brand name alone.

You need to deliver something beyond the red colour.

Did you ever shop at Cartier? Many do. They could buy similar (but not the same) elsewhere, yet they don't.

Don’t disagree. And no doubt there’s enough in a first wave to sell at any price. Hell you can make an Icona SP4 SUV at $3m and sell 500 of them no doubt.

Would I buy one at $200? Absolutely. Would I at $500? Not a chance. I’d rather sink it into a GTS or SF90 or new equivalent at those price points.

Again someone will buy it at any price point. I just don’t see a benefit to the brand longterm to sell a Halo SUV vs playing in that space to expand your customer base and volume.

No one else is selling an SUV as their pinnacle except maybe Land Rover. For every other comparable brand it augments their customer base and gives them options.

I don’t buy that Ferrari can enter the SUV game to sell a single digit multiple of FFs. It’s gotta net bigger than that longterm. Somehow I still feel confident that they’ll succeed beside themselves.

Well said and those that say Ferrari can’t sell it at $500k on name alone are forgetting the G-Wagon. By all accounts it’s not a great car, is decent at off road but virtually no one has ever used it for that, and for the price, is pretty much built like a (very expensive) tin can. Yet there is a 5 year wait to get one, people are paying far over MSRP, and they out perform the stock market in terms of value. The reason? Purely status.

I have a feeling the Purosangue will be an even more extreme example where prices skyrocket due to demand. It will have a more exclusive name (Ferrari vs Mercedes) and far fewer numbers. It will be an even more extreme status symbol and as a result the demand (and price over time) will be far above what the g-wagon has ever done.

It will be the equivalent of a Patek Nautilus for a car: offered as a reward for top customers and trading at extreme prices for those wanting the ultimate status symbol.

I would say Rolls Royce is selling the Cullinan SUV now as their Pinnacle. The car is built on the Phantom platform, not the Ghost platform, and sells 100x over the phantom so I feel it fills the top spot for RR, and they are not cheap, average build is in the 400K mark and can hit about 500K+ when you go black badge.

This car will be Ferrari's new 2+2 and this range historically has filled the Pinnacle/most expensive within their production car range. I am not including special cars, just production. The SF90 is a production car so if the base price of the new 2+2 is not higher, then the SF will own the top spot.

I've followed with interest the exchange of opinions about the selling price of the Purosangue. When we are talking about very expensive luxury goods like a Purosangue the truth is that some people will buy them, many others wish they could.

There is one psychologist that has an interesting theory and says that part of the reason for that it’s because we are animals and animals can gain an advantage over other animals of the same species by giving out signals (whether true or not) which help them attract mates and intimidate rivals. According with this theory if you buy a new Purosangue you’re demonstrating you have access to $ 500,000 required for this single purchase, and presumably there’s more where that came from. Even if no one is consciously aware of it, the underlying message is that by buying a very expensive luxury good you show that you have enough resources to look after any future children, and that enemies with less resources should think twice before trying to mess with you. This fellow also concluded that an item that is both expensive and useful doesn’t give out as impressive a signal as one that is expensive and near -useless.

No matter what the price of the Purosangue is it will be a commercial success mainly because value in luxury is much less connected to product and features than to brands.

Except driving an expensive car doesn’t automatically mean the person can afford it. I know the existence of exotic rental car agencies frustrates some young women in Miami.
