This coming Sunday the latest episode of ‘The Car Years’ (on ITV4 UK) features a 308 GTS versus a Lotus Turbo Esprit. Vicki Butler Henderson (who appears quite excited to be driving the 308) left a small teaser on her YouTube channel (footage with the 308 is from 4:07 to 6:00 mins): Here is the official trailer for the show: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2POXy1_iI0 For those outside the UK with a VPN who can register to use the ITV player, it may be worth a look (after Sunday): https://www.itv.com/hub/the-car-years/2a6359a0010
I seem to recall that 'Car' magazine (in the UK) loved the Lotus in the early 80s, but I think that was more in comparison with the GTBi. I did drive a later version of the Espirt Turbo at Oulton Park once, and it handled really beautifully.

Vicki Butler Henderson! I haven't heard of her since the old days of the original Top Gear with her and Tiff Needel. I enjoyed that show. That YouTube content is pretty crude but hopefully the presentation is better in the show/series itself. I couldn't view the trailer from here in the USA.
I have it too, but I was older than 13 unfortunately. I had a subscription to Car for many years and still I have all the magazines up in the loft. The one that sticks in my mind is an article by Mel Nichols with a 'duck egg blue' Mirua SV. If I ever had a Miura, it would have to be that one.
I can’t believe the Esprit won by 2:1 votes. I like the Esprit - esp the S1 - but I wouldn’t have one over my 308QV. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
I owned a 1977 Lotus Esprit S1 the same time I had my Ferrari 308 GTS. Was really happy seeing it in my driveway for the first time. Was happiest when the transport company arrived a year later to take it away!
