Hi all, I had my cats upgraded from ceramic 400cpsi to metallic 200cpsi a few days ago. I am now wondering if the cat ECUs be disabled/simulated with the cat upgrade or better leave them in? Somehow the metallic cats are more heat resistant, on the other hand a working temperature signal is good early warning on engine malfunction... I did see somewhere that newer F355 had factory metallic 200cpsi in, do the still have the Cat ECUs and same temperature thresholds for SDL as the ones with ceramics? +1 The CAT ECUs have the same part number for all 355's. I have read that the fitment of the metallic type cats was fairly random (so perhaps not determined by vehicle assembly number). On the other hand, Motronic ECU part numbers are based on country and assembly number, so it's unlikely that the metallic type required special ECU software. The dummy units are a good idea, but I would only use them for faultfinding on a catted car.
Temperature thresholds are the same for all models of 355 as far as I am aware. If you have cats you need the thermocouples and cat ecus. As you mention it will give you warning of a potentially destructive engine malfunction (overheated exhaust gas and/or unburnt fuel). The slow down warning system can be made completely 100% reliable with modern tech.
Hi guys, yeah I also think its wise to leave them in. I have 4 working cat ECUs (2 black and 2 green ones), all working and sealed with added silicone. That should do for another decade or two. Best regards and thanks for your input.
