Well guys and Gals I thought I would chronicle my Resto Mod project. I purchased this 81 GTS on bring a traler this fall. It had some rust issues and had an 84 QV transplant. It was rough and in my opinion the perfect starting point for a rather radical make over. What I didn't know and I'm not real happy about it. Appears there may have been a bad head gasket, but I digress.... I will post pictures and updates as we make progress.

I've road raced, I've built and have worked on cars my entire life. But never a Ferrari! So for this build i'm lucky to have Mike Dusold (Dusold Designs) as a very good and personal friend. As one of the most amazing custom car builders in the U.S. I'm looking forward to what he and I create together!

Visually, the plan is slam it down with coil overs, fender flares, wide tires, big brakes and a splitter. I'm also 6'4" and there is no way i could fit in the car much less actually drive it. So we are moving the foot box forward, putting in a Tilton race pedal setup, race seats , custom steering column and a detachable wheel. Color will stay red with camel interior.

Engine has already been delivered to Nick Forza. We are doing cams, bumping the compression and running a full custom built EFI setup with headers and mind numbing exhaust. There may be a turbo or super charger in the future, but no commitments to that just yet.

I know the purists will hate this and me.. but frankly I'm ok with that. I'm hoping to build the baddest and coolest 308 around. I hope you all enjoy it.... or dont.

I'll start with the "before" pictures and will add and update as progress is made.

With the right mindset any of these car can be turned into nice rides

the one I showed was in bad shape. Outside for 10 years, engine with broken valves. Etc etc. Look at it now

as diy guy. These cars are not difficult or expensive to work on

Exciting. Seems like a perfect starting point. Looking forward to following the process.

    Are you bore/stroking the motor?

My carb'd NA 3.6L upgrade, using the original block made huge diff in power. I used a 360 crank, its basically a 2V 360 motor, it has the same power/torque curve up to about 6500-7000 RPM, then degrades due to the limits of the two valve heads.

waiting to see / hear about the condition of the motor from Nick. Depending on parts availability and necessity, we will make some decisions on what direction we take from here.

Read this thread. The OP mentions where he got his in the US.

But stay away from the chrome lip. Whole yellow is much better.

I like many things from this mod. Except the crooked angled wheels stance! I hate that.

There are few purists on here as those types frequent a different echelon of the market. We’re just grateful when another car gets saved from being parted out.

You have to do more than just lower it and get a bigger engine to be the “baddest.” Personally I would go with an interesting colour at the very least.

Cool project, I’m doing something very similar and have already ordered my NTM wheels from Alpha9, mine is a twin turbo 83 QV that will get the EFI treatment, I like some of the styling on the earlier cars and am going to go that route such as euro bumpers, getting rid of the diaper and painting the hood grills body color, and making it look like a B and not an S. I shoul start a thread when I’m further along.

I think that all of the FIA Group 4 cars have those. I haven’t seen the other 18 but I have seen 6 or 7 of them (plus mine) and they all have those supports.
