^^^^ WOW. Sadly, the Kalin was DOA. Cork broke. all brown. Drank a Lando 2016 PN instead. I have two more 2000 Kalin DD in the bin. Here's hoping.

2004 Pavillion Rouge du Chateau Margaux tonight with roasted turkey breast, mashies, and corn. The poor man's Margaux :D

The 2018 RMS bubbly is from Roco Winery here in the Willamette Valley. IMO, Rollin Soles makes a great bubbly...

If you can't get the Latour down to 55 degrees, Rob, plop in a few ice cubes.

If Giamatti can drink a 61 Cheval Blanc out of a styrofoam cup in Sideways......you should get a pass for plastic with the Latour:D

I had a couple of bottles of that from 1929 at a New Years Eve dinner in 1969...I've never had a better wine since. Back to 2021...I have recently been enjoy an amazingly pleasant cheap French red...I have even excused its screw cap (a first for me). If I walked into a joint anywhere in France and asked for a glass of the house red, and they gave me this, I'd smile and enjoy it without reservation. $7.00 at Gelsons, 30% off at Ralphs with any other five bottles. Not heavy and not watery...and definitely not serious...just a good honest glass of French red wine. If you see it in your neighborhood, give it a try. Image Unavailable, Please Login

It's typically very difficult to find a good Bourgogne at a relatively low price, unless you're in the know (Bordeaux is easier to manage); this one found in a local countryside supermarket is actually very good value for money:

Its price has just been increased by 20% unfortunately (objectively, it's still good value for money though) - I should have made more stock :(

I am in Burgundy and am always trying different things, had a great blanc aligote the other day.

But tonight I am having a bottle of something I bought without looking closely, I though it was a California Syrah but no, it is a different grape, petite Sirah, no y...from Baja Mexico!
    Will report later.
The funny thing is I bought this right near our former family property outside Macon (the real Macon, in France!) where we had small Pouilly Fuisse vineyards...and one of my uncles lived decades in Mexico, my cousin still lives in Mexico city. Never in a million years would they have believed you could find a Mexican wine here!:)

Admittedly ignorant palate but for me Prisoner is my go-to and Palermo or Papillon when I want to splurge a bit. Prisoner was better when actually owned by Orin Swift but still excellent IMHO. I have tried Opus and Silver Oak and other higher-end reds and always come back to these three. Mollydooker Boxer is also quite good IMHO but a bit quirky.

Again - I am way out of my league here but just my personal preferences - Cheers :)

So this Baja California (Mexican!) La Cetto petite Sirah, very nice, almost syrupy, looking finish a bit like port wine. Will buy again.. oh and it cost maybe ten Euros.

Oh and Scott I am like you I don't claim any knowledge but humility is the first step to learning:)
