    Hi dear,

my experience was very similar to yours, but 4 months ago I brought home the pranching horse (see my thread for reference: https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/how-to-become-the-happiest-person-in-the-world.647322/)

I dreamed of owning a Ferrari since I was 4 years old, just because I liked them. I loved them, and there could be no rational reason. Maybe I was insecure, maybe I was oversensitive to art and beauty.

15 years ago I had saved enough money to get easily a 328 without going bankrupt, but I was less than 30 and believed there was no hurry. Then during the years my craving got gradually more intense, I kept checking the F-classifieds every week, and kept thinking that someday I would do it.
Then last April something changed, because I had the intution that with all this free money that they are printing for the recovery all the F-prices would inflate even more, so I had the feeling that it was now or maybe never. I thought anout it for few days, and in the end decided that I could not close my life without having had a Ferrari. It is a stupid thing, there are lots of more important things in life, but a Ferrari speaks to your heart bypassing the brain.

So one evening at the end of April I told my wife (who is nearly as minimalistic as yours): my dear, I am sorry. I got infected by Ferrari when I was four, and now I truly started to fear that I will never have one. I hope you will not complain if I will take part of my savings (my own savings, 'cause we don't have anything shared) to buy one to fulfill my childhood dream. It is a silly dream, I know, but it will not affect financially our family by any means." I explained that it was not something to show off - I hate status symbols - but something for my inner sould that I would not share with anyone - in fact most of my friends still don't know of my 208 GTB.
I explained that I am in love with art - we have some - and that to me a Ferrari would be the equivalent purchase of the Venus of Milos 2.000+ years ago.
I did not mention depreciation, investment, and those silly things at all. It was something driven by the heart only, as it is for you.

I would have bet 1 million € that she would have answered "you are crazy", but in fact she said "it's your money, do what you want. I would not do it, but you are you." This really meant that my wife loved and accepted me for what I was, with all my defects.

Fast forward 3 months, I brought home my jewel, pretty similar to what you wish.

And on that night, at the end of one of the happiest days of my life, she got angry and told me she was so shocked by my crazy purchase that I was psychotic.

But it was too late, and my Ferrari will stay with me forever!!! :D:D:D:D:D

All the best my friend. Move on and get your Ferrari as soon as you can! You will never regret it.

Your sentiments mirror mine. As do those of your wife!

You are a lucky man. Look after your girl. She is right. And so are you. Which, paradoxically, makes absolutely no sense. But sometimes they are the relationships where you get to laugh the most. When the bar is not right down there. ;-)

When my wife met me, she found that I had not one but two yellow sports cars. She sort of knew ...

I bought a 308GT4, she thought I spent too much money on a car. Years later, I sold it and brought home a 328. A couple years after, I bought a 355 spider through some shenanegan with my nephew. She put up with it. Then I bought a 348 stashed at her brother in law's place, and she put up with that. The I bought a 355 Berlinetta, brought it home and put in under a cover and she never knew it. Then the evening I drove home the Porsche 996 GT3, she did not speak to me for a week. Let's not bring up the Ducatis.

Her birthday a few years later, I brought home a 2006 Cobalt Blue Porsche 997 Tipt. She gave me a dirty look and asked whose car is that? I said, it's yours, happy birthday.

Never a word out of my wife about my cars anymore. Oh she did say "my boss likes my car" or "this guy at the gas station likes my car" or ...

As long as the cost of ownership doesn't affect your household budget or your financial plan go get your car. If your have to justify the purchase you can simply say that it will keep you from resenting anyone that didn't support your decision. Good luck and enjoy your Ferrari!

Wow <shaking head> - I usually have thoughts and at least try to articulate them on here- But in this case/thread all I can do is shake my head and internally reiterate precisely why I'm not married but fortunate to have the SO I have and have been with for over 20 years-

If I (or she) had to go through these types of gyrations to "justify" or "ask permission" to do something reasonable that makes either of us happy we would either split or find ankle weights and an ocean.

Not being insulting and see this with most of my married friends so nothing new- and realize the joys and benefits of marriage may offset/outweigh this type of drama but for me I just don't get it.

Good luck- If you can afford a 328 and not have your family eating ramen and it makes you happy then do it IMHO- it's not like you are selling a kidney and quad-mortgaging your house to buy an Enzo or F40.

That’s a fantastic idea I only need 1 Kidney and you can get as many mortgage loans that you want just as easy as getting an STD at the whore house.

    F40 here I come!

I'm with ya!! Have had a kidney and right testicle (do you really need two of each? :) ) on the market for a while now to obtain a 275- If they sell I will still have to make up the difference but at least a decent start :););)

It's not really a married vs. unmarried thing - more of a personality/relationship type thing... I'm happily married and it would never occur to me to ask permission to buy anything from my wife. That includes many sports cars and airplanes.

5 Ferraris, some arbitrary number of Ducatis, 2 Porsches and a partridge in a pear tree. I imagine there is some medical condition under which you can be classified. But it sounds like you are not letting life pass you by. Good for you. Also glad that in the end, your wife is happy with her present. :)

Ha!! That's actually quite ironic and funny - Up until about 4 years ago I had hair down to my waist. When I had it cut I donated it to Locks of Love. Had I known I would have sent it your way :)

    In exchange for a 275 obviously .... :) :)

Interesting thread. My wife was in favor of it— my Dino that is. Now looking for a 328GTB. I figure I am the one who works hard and makes the money. Wifey is cool but I would have bought my car anyway. Life is short and I hate being told what to do (except by clients).

Just tell your wife you are buying an SUV. It looks like they made some in the 70's . You could run the Baja 500 with this much ground clearance.

    Maybe I can help.

"Honey, I want this car. I've worked my ass off to provide for our financial stability, and this is how I'm rewarding myself. You can like it, or not like it; if you do like it- great; if you don't like it- tough ****- it is what it is."

    Fin.

I think that is a great response, it certainly adds perspective to the Ferrari issue but also to one’s future expectations for life.
