I never read much into what Toto or Mercedes say in general...they have been sandbagging for 8yrs.
Yah vell, ze red cars look so fast viz ze 0.2 second aero adwantage. Same old Toto record. Being beaten is one thing , but being patronised makes it so much worse.
Well, his alternative career was to be a Financial Investor, so it's his job to give fake promises to assure investors that everything's good. Deep down, we all know who Toto really is!!

Bas, I respect your knowledge but you are being a bit too hard on Toto. He has many a time been truthful. Last season when Hamilton said "Man that Red Bull is a rocket." I am certain Toto would have replied to the effect of " Yes it is just use setting 44 and it will be a firecracker in your rear view mirrors." See, he was being truthful with Hamilton.

On the other hand, I sometimes wonder why Haas is in F1. We all know they will never be performing. Mick is there because of his father's name. Mazepin is there because of his father's money. And the car is crap. What's the future?
Someone's got to be last...technically speaking in the last 10 or so years you wonder why anyone aside from Mercedes, Ferrari, Mclaren or Red Bull exist.
Because you're talking about them, even if now there isn't anything good to say. Having said that, Haas impressed in their first season. Then they went backwards, but it's not that they've always sucked.
I fell in love with F1 in the mid seventies when teams could freely test and produce winning cars, even the newbies-Walter Wolf Racing for example. Other than Brawn back in 09 I can’t think of any team that was able to immediately produce winning cars in the last 20 plus years.
Also Matra on pole in South Africa, winning 3 GPs and Jackie Stewart finishing 3rd in the WDC during its first year .
But even then, Brawn took over the departing Honda Works team and came out swinging with the double-diffuser concept. (Of course, Brawn’s team eventually became Merc F1)
