I actually have a ripper place for you depending on your root and timing. The Country Mile Cafe in Ravenshoe, brilliant egg and bacon burgers(just that no meat pattie),it's on the opposite side of the road as you travel south through town. And anothery in Charters Towers at the pokie little servo on the left where you should be getting your 98 as the Puma a bit further on does not have 98. The -LOCAL pies are beaut if they haven't sold out!
You have to try the steaks at the Dorrigo pub (east end of the Waterfall Way) - huge but extremely delicious; when Colleen’s was served we both burst out laughing how huge it was and people at surrounding tables were taking bets on what percentage she could eat (she is shorter than me) but she ate most of it and got applauded by the whole place; said it was the best steak she’s ever had.
Well there’s certainly no fine dining in most of rural Aus, but for nostalgia (ie Grammie’s lamb stew, or Grandma’s roast chicken), some pubs are great. When in any of these places, I only ever order the old fashioned stuff, avoid anything trendy.
You’d be surprised how much fine dining there is in the country. “Brae” in Birregurra was up until the last year or so, the number one rated restaurant in the Good Food Guide, for several years, rated above Attica, Vue de Monde etc. It took us a few goes to get there with the recent lockdown. Well worth it, mostly their own produce beautifully prepared. There are many other gems like that out there too Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yep I'm rude, don't let the facts get in the way of a good story FFS....perhaps there is a medical issue .
You think your rudeness is caused by a medical condition? I'd never considered that, but it makes sense.
I'm with you Greg, I'm gonna seek out the good restaurants if possible on any trip, Julie & I did a road trip around Mornington Peninsula & found superb restaurants, same with McLaren Vale in SA, or many in the Hunter, seek out the wine regions with great roads in between & the good food is also there.
