I bought an '87 Black/Tan 328 GTS last Fall. It is actually the fifth Ferrari I have owned, but none in the last 15 years. I have done a lot of work to it since and have not driven it that much. The only thing left to work on is the AC and I have narrowed the issue to the thermostat. Yesterday, I decided to go fill the car up with gas. The nearest station with non ethanol gas is about 10 miles away.

I live in an area near Destin, Fl where high end cars are rather common. I see them almost every time I go out. People pay very little attention to the Porsche C4S that I drive.

When I got to the gas station, I was having problems with the non ethanol pump. I went inside and the attendant told me that all of the non ethanol pumps were out. When I went back outside, there were people standing around the car. I got lots of questions and stories from a gentleman than claimed to own just about every older Ferrari model ever made, among other stories.

15 minutes and several photos later from people passing by, I headed back home.

I think my car is gorgeous, but nothing that special. I guess I will be making lots of new friends whenever I take it out.

Yep- "Quick" Trips like getting gas or running by the convenience store etc. quickly become 20+ minute excursions :) The guy working the 711/Shell store yesterday came out and video- called his son to look at the 355.

Personally I love it- Not showing off but genuinely enjoy making people smile and enjoy talking about the car(s)- Let some kid sit in it sometime- He/she will remember it forever and perhaps aspire to own one like I'm sure we all did.

Some people find it annoying- My attitude is if you don't want attention then don't drive an exotic- Believe me putting gas in my Jetta is never a photo op session :)

    Cheers :)

I would disagree. I own an 88 328 GTS in Nero Met/Crema. It too is a gorgeous car. It is something special though. You don't see Ferrari's driving around everyday in most places. You might be jaded from being around too many high end cars.

I love the high end cars. I guess I forgot over the years how people react to Italian exotics. In the early 90's, I had a black Lamborghini Jalpa that would pull a crowd everywhere I went, living in Pittsburgh at the time. I love the cars for what they are and how they drive and have forgotten how people react to them.

It happens all the time with my 89 328 , I dont think the same can be said for all the latest super cars, not matter who built them .

    Thank you

Same here with my 88 bianco 328gts. These are real Ferraris! People know and recognize one of the most iconic Ferrari series of all times! From back in the day when seeing a Ferrari was something special. I live in Los Angeles and there are 488s, f8s, lambos, McLaren s all over the street. New plastic garbage!

Too bad that doesn't work on my wife.....She says my 328 looks "sinister" and does not care for just about any Ferrari.

Haha , my partner is German , she views the Ferrari as completely impractical, so I bought a Porsche to accompany the Ferrari . The Porsche now merely rates as “cute”

Oddly enough, my wife loves Porsches. We have an '06 C4S cab that she loves. Go figure!

This ^^ So True - IMHO a 328 is one of the most beautiful "modern" Ferrari's ever made - and I own a 355 which to me is THE most beautiful "modern" Ferrari - I also am fortunate enough to own a 458 Spider which is obviously breathtaking but I can tell you that the 355 gets more "gas station" attention than the 458. Most people identify a Ferrari either with the Magnum PI show or perhaps Miami Vice but Magnum takes it from my experience - and most people can't tell the difference between a 308 and a 328 so when they see one they immediately know it is a Ferrari. I have actually had people ask me if my 458 was a new Corvette - and their are a lot of similarities to a non-aficionado - but a 328/308 looks like nothing else and nothing looks like a 308/328 - and those Beverly Hills Cop II fans will also remember the 328 from the opening sequence of that movie.

So - YES your 328 is VERY special and it will garner attention and questions from probably a larger "general" audience than cars 10x as rare and 10x the cost - Enjoy and spread the love! :) :)

When I owned my 348 TS, I got into a discussion with a guy at a petrol station (or gas station for my American friends ;)), who said: "I didn't realise Ferrari made a Testarossa with a lift out roof panel!" - I tried to tell him that it wasn't a Testarossa, it was a 348, but he wouldn't have it, even after seeing the 348 TS badge at the back! He walked away saying: "No, you can't fool me mate, I know a Testarossa when I see one, nice car!"

One of my work colleagues wouldn't accept that the 348 TS wasn't the Magnum pi car that Tom Selleck drove: "because it's got the lift out roof panel!"

(Confusing the 348 for a Testarossa I could kind of get, but mistaking a 348 TS for a 308 GTS was a really weird one! )

And when people say my current 328 GTS is the Magnum pi car, I simply reply: "Kind of - It's an updated version of the Magnum car "

But how many will realise that there was one 328 GTS, and two different 308 GTS' used in that sequence (one 308 with flag mirrors, and one with Vitaloni mirrors):)

Wow! Excellent attention to detail! I knew they used both models but definitely not at the level of detail you point out- Guess I better find my DVD and watch it again!

    Thanks much

Awesome- Thanks! Yeah I never really looked that close at the very first scenes- Usually started paying attention for the driving scenes- I think those were all 328 right?

I may still watch the movie- With all the doir crap out recently and all the CGI/special effect superhero and space stuff it will be good just to watch something funny, Especially with a Ferrari and Eddie Murphy- :)

Hey my Giallo 355 GTS has a "lift out roof panel" maybe Tom drove that one too??? :):(

I was chatting with a friend who just bought a new C8 the other day and mentioned that most non-afficianados think "Magnum PI" when someone mentions "Ferrari" and the subtle (not subtle to us mind you) differences between 308s, 328s, 348s, 355s are not picked up by most people. Kind of the same between 360s and 430s.

And (blasphemy) I have had people at gas/petrol stations ask me if my 458 was a "new Corvette" !!

I think the funniest was a couple of ladies arguing about my 355 when parked on the street by a Cafe I was at and could hear the comments of people walking by it- the one lady was CONVINCED it was "one of the new Mustangs because it had a horse on it" and the other thought it was one of those "Porch cars" ....

I should have recorded it :D:D

Women have no interest in cars and are therefore clueless about them. The famed psychiatrist and professor of psychology Jordan Peterson once said it best: "Men are interested in things. Women are interested in people."

BTW, why does the Mustang horse only have one hind leg? Is that why Mustangs are slower than Ferraris?

Totally agree- One main reason I am lucky to have the SO I have- She thinks and acts more like a guy but still feminine- She could give two whits about people- for her it's dogs, cars, shoes, cats and jewelry ;):D
